Enjoyed a Saturday night at the Padre hotel for our anniversary. Great outdoor bar on the second level and fun nightclub with a hip DJ. Our room was spacious and trendy. Would definitely stay here again!

Once again, for the 4th time over the last 5 years stopped at the Padre. The hotel is still fun and remains Bakersfield's only real hip choice. However, as before little details continue to plague the housekeeping. So one has to put this on the management and the lack of any desire to do better. An example - Windows open with hand cranks which are for some twisted thinking removed from the rooms. The windows are left open when unoccupied to air them out, but are supposed to be closed back up before guests move in. They aren't closed, and so the guest is left trying to figure out how to get that accomplished. They will hand them out, but they want them back. Very odd and annoying.

The hotel itself and surrounding streets have become party central. It was inundated with nightclub type crowd (Bakersfield style - very motley mix). The noise is deafening (particularly with windows which cant be closed). So your bed plans better include not going to bed till about 1 am if it's the weekend.

Overall, the idea remains great. But the execution is incomplete. And I suppose will remain that way if it hasn't been taken care of by now. The fixtures and public areas are stating to take on nicks and wear which many of the patrons also show from years of ongoing partying.

Room Tip: away from the main drag and the nightclub on the 2nd floor.

Hello onepoet,

Thank you so much for your review, and for your helpful feedback. I have met with our management team and we are actively working to address the housekeeping details you mentioned with every one of our housekeeping attendants. Being a historic building from 1928, we have an older style of windows that require cranks to open them, but we are always happy to provide these to our guests throughout their stay and I am very sorry this has not been your experience. I am also very sorry to hear that the noise from our evening events has disturbed you, and will work with our team to make sure this does not continue to be an issue. We try to inform each guest upon arrival when our nightclub is open, and do our absolute best to place guests away from any noise (only a small fraction of our rooms are over the nightclub), and in the worst case scenario the DJ's we work with will always accommodate volume adjustments right away.

Thank you,

Jennifer Johnson

The Padre is a beautiful refurbished historic hotel in downtown Bakersfield. It has comfortable, stylish rooms with nice, large bathrooms, comfortable beds, and some nice views of downtown. It is clean and well run. The lobby is beautiful and it has a bar and restaurants. It has good valet parking and it is a short walk to many restaurants, bars, etc., in downtown. We stay here every time we come through town and always love it.

It is also inexpensive for the style, comfort, and service that you get, a great value.

Just spent 10 days here for business. The rooms/beds are comfortable and clean. The bar scene in both the lobby and on the second floor deck bar are both lively and laid back with very solid menus throughout. The staff was helpful and friendly. If you were an author and needed to hole up somewhere to get past writer's block for a week or two this would be the place or if you were a couple wanting to get out of LA for a weekend and spend it in a hotel the Padre would be your go to spot.

Ultimately we had a good night's sleep here on a long journey between yosemite and palm springs.

The valet was good and the cheapest so far, so this definitely gets plus points.

On arrival it's clear the bars / restaurants on the ground floor appear to be very popular. Check in was quick and we moved through the noise and the bustle easily.

We stayed on the second floor. There was a lot of activity as there was some sort of meeting going on in the function room on the floor. Our room was far enough away for little sound to travel but there were rooms very close to it. This explains the noise waiver you sign on check in...

The room (216) was very comfortable but two things to note. There was a noise in the room that sounded like someone was drilling next door. Eventually I concluded it was something to do with the air conditioning - very odd. We were knackered though, so slept through it.

The other quirk was the shower / bathroom. There is a huge clear glass wall between it and the bed area. Not only could you see into the shower but the toilet etc. There was a 'modesty' curtain you could pull across the outside, but it was fairly translucent.

Interesting idea though - I guess it's great if you wanted to watch the game whilst showering. I would just recommend a more opaque material. My fiancée suggested it would be comforting if the person in the bathroom was in control of the curtain.

Otherwise this was a great room. The bed was comfortable and it was a good size. The shower was powerful and quick to warm up. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent and quick. Would come back despite slight design issues.

Hi Charles,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I appreciate your feedback and the compliments on our team, and would love for you to visit us again. I am working with our engineering team to address the noise you mentioned, and have several other room variations that offer a more private experience (no peek-a-boo showers) with the same high levels of comfort that I think you would enjoy. Please reach out to me personally at jjohnson@thepadrehotel.com on your next trip to the area, I would love to meet you and set up your accommodations.

Cheers!

Jennifer Johnson
