One night stay on our long distance walk.

Gary, Carol and the team were utterly brilliant, going the extra mile (literally when we needed a lift) to make sure we had everything. A special mention has to be made of the gravy that went with the Pie - deserves an extra star (Michelin?) just for that.

Can only echo all the positive comments about this inn.
Good parking, clean comfortable room, friendly helpful staff & owners & great food (not fast but home cooked generous portions).
Ideal base for visiting Hadrian’s Wall, Roman Forts & surrounding area.
Will definitely be back.

Lovely place beautifully decorated we both had the steak pie which was delicious couldn't manage all the pastry as it was rather large, the meat was very tender proper gravy and great selection of veg wish we could have managed a pudding but just so full we will be back

An odd place from the outside, but don't let that put you off. Modern, clean and nicely decorated inside.

Service was friendly and suggestions made by waitress proved good.

Food was excellent, my wife and I both said it was the best meal we've had out in a long time. Curried sweet potato & coconut soup, delicious! Mains, see pictures!

An unusual venue, part castle and part caravan park, tucked away just off the A69. We felt a bit disappointed on arrival that the menu seemed a bit standard - other reviews mention a specials board which was blank, maybe because it was a Bank Holiday Monday?

But everything was nicely cooked - the starter of asparagus wrapped in prosciutto was very good, and nicely presented with a chopped salad garnish including pomegranate seeds. Rib-eye steak came perfectly cooked with good fat chips - though the stilton sauce needs more stilton. Steak and ale pie was a big hit as was the gammon and egg. We were too full to get to desserts.

Nice relaxed restaurant and friendly staff who are clued up on coeliac gluten free. They don't have a dedicated fryer for chips but new potatoes were readily suggested as an alternative. Good range of local beers and wine by the glass.
