We were late getting into Thurles after a five hour drive from north of the border and were eager to find a place to stay the night. There's not many B&B's that will let you through the door so late in the evening unless you've booked in advance but "Ryan's Daughter Restaurant and B&B" didn't seem to mind in the least our rapping on their door at 10 o'clock at night. Directions from a friendly local had led us to this "little gem" in O'Donovan Rossa Street just off the main square of the town. On checking in, we were led upstairs to our double room with en suite, television, tea making facilities and, as we were to discover soon after, a supremely comfortable, crisp white sheeted, double bed. All standard fare you may say, but the "humble money" we had just handed over downstairs led us to think we were settling for something a little less comfortable. Happily as it turned out, that wasn't the case and this establishment just offered exceptional value for money. A hearty breakfast was served next morning in the restaurant by friendly and smiling staff who advised us on the most scenic route to follow as we left to continue our onward journey. As we drove out of Thurles we couldn't help thinking how lucky we were to have found the best person to ask, for the best place to stay, at the best price in town. A lucky find indeed!
