These two are completely seperate Churches in Seefeld. The Parish Church of Sr. Oswald is in the centre of the village, whilst the little Church on the lake (i.e. Seekirchl) is out on the road which leads to the next village of Mösern!. The Seekirchl used to sit on it's small mound in the middle of a lake which was used in the 16 Century for fish breeding (carp) The Seefeld Gemeinde (council) is discussing whether the re-flooding of the lake could be undertaken.
We attended mass at St Oswald's, the singing was out of this world, we felt totally comfortable amongst the local people and other holiday makers like ourselves. Quite a lot of the men and women, for whom this is their local church, turned up wearing the Austrian National Dress, which they wore with pride
We visited this little cathedral during our Wisconsin Ambassadors of Music tour in Seefeld and found it to be a charming and quaint. Not as breath-taking as many of the huge cathedrals throughout Europe, but it was a pleasant stop on our walking tour of Seefeld.
Lovely inside but looking a bit tired on the outside. Go if you have a spare half hour and perhaps double up with a walk around the lake?
The church stands out like an icon and photographs well from every angle.
we attended a wedding here, it's small, intimate and not foreboding as some traditional churches can be. worth a 5 minute look over
