Visited for the first time, and was impressed immediately with the ambience and the calm manner of the staff who were attentive, but did not hurry us.
The food was perfectly cooked and presented. The red house wine was really good. Overall an excellent evening.

We visited here for an early Mother’s Day / bday meal for my mother in law with several family members.
The place itself is lovely and decorated beautifully.
The strawberry mojito’s and gin selection went down very well indeed, however we were a little disappointed with the food.
My daughter had children’s fish and chips which was very greasy and made her feel a bit sick afterwards, my husband had the minted lamb burger which was very char grilled on the outside and the brioche bun was stale and fell ti pieces and I had the hanging steak skewer which was OK but meat quite over cooked and again the chips seemed as if they’d been in the fryer a few times as were very hard and greasy.
I ordered a side of halloumi and another waitress brought out onion rings, we sent them back as they weren’t ordered only to have the original waitress who took our orders cone over and looked at me and said barked at me “you ordered onion rings!” To which I replied “no I didn’t I ordered halloumi” and she stormed off back into the kitchen! Quite rude to be honest, I know what I ordered and she was making out if said something entirely different!
I would return again but would definitely try something different on the menu and hopefully get served by someone who wasn’t so rude!

Amazing food, service and drinks! A special thank you to the lovely Lois who looked after me and my friend; she’s an incredible, warm woman with a heart of gold and a real asset to The Retreat! Can definitely recommend the Maple Steak Skewers and the Stilton Mushrooms to start. Can’t wait to go back again soon and try more of the menu and have some cocktails on a weekend night perhaps - they look fab!
Thank you so much, will be telling all my friends and family about this little hidden gem, can’t fault the service or the food... and as a waitress myself, I can be critical
Thanks again Lois xxx

A lovely place to go, gorgeous inside and clean. It’s on my doorstep but don’t feel I know the staff and they could be more friendly towards the locals
