One of the nicest condo complexes in the area. No complaints there but what a shame the locals don't take any pride in their country and try to take advantage of tourists. Garbage all over the beaches and the locals just add to the mess. We found 4 used needles on the beach the first 2 days. Driving is insane so don't even think of renting a car , no speed limits and giant potholes every ware. Prostitution and drugs are a problem. Prices are outrageous and they are continuously trying to rip off the tourists. Restaurant food is poor to uneatable and way overpriced, unless you want to spend over $100 US for something good.,. It is so dangerous an night that you cannot even leave your resort. Armed guards at every tourist spot and reports of beatings and robberies everyday. Do yourself a favor and take your vacation money else ware. Until the Dominicans realize that tourists are there only hope for the future and the corrupt government and police change, they are going to get reviews like this often. Any country, including anywhere in Mexico, will be a better pick for anyone looking for a safe, reasonable priced vacation. Trust me, go else ware.

Room Tip: rooms at the back of the resort are noisy from the street

Cabarete East is a quiet, clean, beautiful condominium. It is in front of the ocean with a pool and restaurant on site. It has a new manager that is very efficient.
It is great for those who want to enjoy town just for a while but then retreat to a much calmer place. If you are looking for a young, populated spot then look elsewhere. If you want peace, comfort and quiet, then you hit the bullseye with this spot.

Room Tip: If you don't mind the walk upstairs the 4th floor of the F building has quite a view.

We rented a one bedroom on the ground floor of building A for three months. Our landlord Ilya was very accomidating and helpful. The suite was somewhat sparsely furnish and the kitchen list was missing several items, nothing earth shattering and we got by but could stand to be updated. The bed was terrible and sagging badly, we spoke with one of the owners who informed us to contact our landlord as they are often not aware of the condition if they don't visit often. We contacted Ilya and within a few weeks we had a new bed!

The complex itself is wonderful! We made friends and felt very welcomed and at home there. The staff were exceptional! Grounds well maintained, security was friendly, helpful and very dedicated. Felt very safe there. Minerva (sp?), our maid was excellent! Wanted to take her home with us! Restaurant served wonderful food too! Can't think of anything on the menu that we didn't enjoy. Highly recommend east condo and plan to return in the future!

We just returned from our first visit to the Dominican Republic, and I long to return. A two-bedroom condo at Cabarate East on the second floor was our base for this weeklong trip. We were very pleased with our accommodations in the building to the left of the administration area as you face the ocean. Unlike some who have written below, our kitchen had basic pots and pans, plates, cups, and flatware, but I didn't see a blender, and there was definitely no dish or laundry detergent. No problem for us, as we were advised in advance to stop at the supermarket en route from the airport and purchase essentials such as soap, bread, milk, fruit, etc. Our unit was perfectly quiet, and we all slept beautifully. As noted elsewhere Wayne, the property manager, is extremely forthcoming; Alberto at the front desk is also very helpful. My one suggestion is that Cabarete East extend the hours of its staff such that someone is available to answer questions after 6:00 PM. An additional two hours would be beneficial, particularly for newcomers. If you decide to explore the environs, and would prefer a private driver rather than a tour company, Wayne or Alberto can secure someone for you. We were absolutely delighted with the stellar service we received from Francisco Juma and Ismael Vasquez. Both speak English well, are prompt, flexible, and eminently knowledgeable about the area. We enjoyed the company of each enormously, and will knock on their computer screens if we return to Cabarete (No! WHEN we return to Cabarete!). We used all modes of transportation to get to and from town. One afternoon we walked back from the far end, after a small feast at The Chocolate Bar, and it took about 45 minutes. We used the local bus when it wasn't full, and that cost 25 pesos per person. Taxi fees varied considerably for the same location; on occasion we paid 150 pesos, and the highest we were charged was 350. We realized that for us, the best approach was not to ask the driver how much, but to give him what we assumed it should be. All were satisfied with 150-200. On one night, when neither the bus nor any taxis were available, we took a motorcycle. Regardless of how we traveled, we always felt safe, but we did not walk into or from town at night. Taco Tuesday Night at Martini's should not be missed for the quality, price, and friendly service. We also enjoyed Gordito's (Mexican), Parilla Luis (Dominican BBQ), Bliss (Italian Fusion), and Bayriscer Hof (German). The area abounds with activities and attractions, such as snorkeling in nearby Sosua, the caves at El Choco in Caberete (the road to the entrance is across from Ocean Dream), 27 Falls, Playa Grande, the Cable Car, etc. I suggest you use TripAdvisor for ideas and, upon your arrival, seek Wayne's indispensable feedback. Cabarete East is the perfect place to relax in-between adventures or, as many do, throughout your stay. Enjoy! Thank you Wayne, Alberto, Francisco, and Ismael for a fabulous vacation in Cabarete!

Room Tip: Best views are from the administration building, and the end units on the two adjacent buildings.

We discovered Cabarete East in 2008 and we have vacationed there for 6 to 8 weeks every year since. We've gotten to know many of the owners and the staff. With the on-site restaurant, it really feels like a community. It's a treat to watch the fishermen come up from the beach and see the restaurant manager purchase fish, shrimp, and crab. Put your order in a few days ahead and Pedro and his staff will serve you up a shrimp dinner -- great service.
