Iguana Mama's white water rafting trip to Jarabacoa was really fantastic!! You have to confirm the day before. You need to pack a towel, change of clothes, shoes, bug spray, sunscreen, $40 tip for group of 3-4 and $20 to buy the DVD. There are NO lockers, but bags are locked in van.
They pick you up at your hotel and take you to Santiago (2 hrs) where you stop for a bathroom break. Then you drive up to Jarabacoa to the ranch where they serve scrambled eggs with ham bits and coffee, fruit. You are outfitted with a helmet, life jacket and paddle. They truck you 20mins to the river. There are 4 people and one guide per raft.
The ride is about 2.5 hrs with several stops. Beautiful scenery. Best part was the stop at a large rock where we took turns jumping off into the river. The guides are hilarious and provide funny commentary. They have names for the falls and areas such as "Mike Tyson," and "the toilet."
Breathe in the clean air and enjoy the peace!
Only negative is the hot van ride to and from the ranch. Driver would not turn the AC on full blast. Seats are tight.
