The family seemed nice at first, however weren't entirely honest. Daud mentioned we'd only be able to check in at 8pm after arriving at 8am and charged us full price. They charged us for every toilet roll asked for throughout our 5 night stay. He also asked us to move rooms after double booking the room and moving us to a very budget room for a cost that was only slightly less.

As a guide he is very knowledgeable so it's worthwhile. However, as a guesthouse they have many improvements to be made.

I really can't figure out why this homestay has such a high rating on Tripadvisor!?
In one word: AWEFUL, the bathroom is disgusting, old en smells like urine. If lucky, some drips of cold water out of the shower (as there was probably something wrong with the water pressure).
Next to that, a lot of noise in the early morning and a dark and unsafe route from the mainstreet to the homestay at night.
After one night I left as early as possible to another homestay (Pia's) which was so much cleaner, more comfortable, beautiful and with a better atmosphere and even warm water for the same price!

The whole family is lovely and hospitable. Rooms are basic but large and clean. Very hot water. Laundry service is amazing and inexpensive. Scooter rental fairly priced. Daud is extremely knowledgable and will help you organize your visit. Good location. Excellent value.

Only negatives - I was shocked that there was no sink in the bathroom and the toilet smelled awful. It's also quite noisy between the family and other guests who don't realize that voices carry.

We've already planned to go back!

Whilst the rooms/breakfast are basic, the family are really friendly and helpful. Ask the owner for a tour (can do both car/scooter). He knows about most of the events going on in the area..and if he doesn't he knows the right people to ask to find out!

This centrally located Homestay is a perfect base from which to explore Toraja. Before I tell you about the place you should know that the owner Daud has been a guide for 30 years and trained many of the current guides. He will recommend you a good, reliable guide at a fair price so DON'T acceot the first offer you get when you arrive off the night bus. You will be targeted by guides knowing you are tired and offering tours at inflated prices. Take your time. Get to Riana Homestay where Daud will advise you and family are really friendly and go out of their way to make you feel at home. I had a large twin room with comfortable bed and a massive bathroom. The hot water was a bit tempremental (sometimes boiling, sometimes a bit tepid) but it didn't matter. Plenty of room to wash your own clothes or have them laundered for you. Lots of local kids live close by and they are always laughing and playing, which is nice. There are mega roosters (is there anywhere without them??). Breakfast is adequate but you might want to buy yourself some fruit. Tea and delicious Torajan coffee avaialbe all day and water refill. Toraja is amazing so give yourself plenty of time (4-5 days) to explore.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the first floor where they is a nice seating area.
