This Palace has always been one of my favourite sites in Ashanti. It is your one stop place for Ashanti history and culture

We arrived at opening time as we wanted to get on the road, but there was no one available to give us a tour because apparently people don't usually come that early. Once started, we did receive interesting information about the palace uses and some actual artifacts. There was also a short movie at the beginning. There is a museum store with a variety of goods.

The museum gave a good view on the history of the Ashanti people. The guide knew his stuff and could answer the qustions well.

We were the only people this morning and were politely greeted and taken to view the video (which is actually rather informative) and then on a private guided tour. Our guide was excellent, knowledgeable and went at our pace and answered all our questions about the Ashanti people and their kings and queen mothers. It is a place of chairs and history with photos and wax works that gives insight - short on wow, it is a place of charm.

One of the problems I've found over the years is the limits of museums in developing countries. This as others in Ghana focus on domestic artefacts which tells me very little about the King, what he does, how he rules and his powers, but shows me the gramaphone he used. Some interesting artefacts but not a lot wiser when I'd left.
