This is where bustling crowds and colours meet to give a wonderful morning’s visit. No hassling by anyone; instead everyone smiles, says hello and is happy to direct you to where you wish to go. This is a maze, full of treasures. We discovered Kente cloth and beads. Our bead stall seller could not have helped more, making trips to other stalls for us to find what we wanted and rethreading them as we wished. He also found a seamstress to make up dresses in 24 hours and deliver them to the hotel. And prices are around half elsewhere.

If you really want to experience Kumasi, & I mean genuinely experience it, you should try it at least once. But be ready for crowds like you've never experienced before.
For a truly authentic local experience, take the Trotro there.
It takes a while to walk around the place so don't be in a rush.

It is fun to walk here, a lot to see. Just sit down and watch for a while. People are kind and helpful and make fun of us white people, in a friendly way. Learn a few words Twi so you can have a little chat, they love it!
Everything you need you will find here. The Market building is 'under construction' so the market takes place in the streets. Nice to do: go to the walkers bridge and have a great view from there.

Actually I don't like that much the markets but the one of Kumasi is something unbelievable for the dimension, the colours, smells and noises.

Went on a Sunday which is supposed to be the quietest day but there was still plenty of hustle and bustle. Vendors and stalls selling everything, with a great local vibe - no extra hassling for tourists. We started at the cathedral and walked down from there. On the way back we walked across the overpass of the old train tracks which had a nice view point. Definitely worth a visit even for an hour just to wander, although you could also spend hours if you're market inclined!
