“A beautiful piece of hidden treasure”
Reviewed 14 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

The Straw Cottage provides the perfect getaway from normal life and offers something different with the Cottage built of straw and no electricity.

When you relax on the decking, you feel a part of nature, as all you can hear is the stream flowing and the birds singing. As you settle down in the evening you can enjoy the night sky with a BBQ or get cozy around the log burner that provides you warmth and comfort. Overall you feel like no one knows where you are and it’s complete bliss

We went with our young daughter who was happy to explore the local surroundings, whether it be fishing in the stream or swinging on the swing, in any case it was refreshing to know that she was perfectly safe no matter what she chose to do.

Despite no electricity The Straw Cottage provided for all your basic amenities and the local village was only a short drive away if required.

The hosts were very welcoming and more than approachable with huge smiles. We will definitely be returning soon.

“Magical”
Reviewed 8 April 2014 for a stay in March 2014

No words to describe how amazing this place is! You really will have the most chilled out weekend ever. So relaxing. The views are truely beautiful, the Straw Cottage is truely beautiful. Did not miss the electricity once, nor my 6 year old son, we played cricket, baseball, football in the large open field, we went pond dipping in the stream. We played and made dens in the wood. We did a treasure hunt that was given to us by Margot, again thank you for his treasure. The whole area was so safe to play and explore for the young and the old, all fenced in so childrens and dogs dont wonder off and get lost. It was so cosy when it started to get dark, the logs on the fire the candles on. We chatted, we laughed, we played games, we all had so much fun. We had a BBQ on 2 evenings and the rain certainly didn't spoil it so dont let the weather put you off. We are now working out our dates to come back again.

“Tranquil break away with babbling brook and farm animals.”
Reviewed 14 November 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We (Partner, 11month baby and me) stayed for a long weekend in August.
It began with a delightfully quaint 5 minute walk through woodland to get to this tucked away cottage. The weather was just beginning to get cold at night so the real fire was a welcome treat.
The open plan dining, lounge meant we could keep an eye on a non-stop toddler and the huge chest of toys kept her well entertained.
Everything has been well thought out here with torches &candles, batteries, toys&puzzles for old and young, maps, restaurant menus, fully equipped kitchens utensil, pots&pans, outdoor furniture and barbecue, and welcome welsh cakes and local preserves.
I have nothing detrimental to say about this beautiful place to stay and can't get back soon enough!

“Best holiday ever for a 7 year old boy”
Reviewed 4 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

Our stay at The Straw House was wonderful! The peace, privacy and close proximity to nature was a remedy to city life. The kids had a glorious time playing in the woods and paddling in the stream. Our hosts couldn't have been more charming. The children enjoyed the treasure hunt and list of recommended activities supplied by Margot. Barney said it was the best holiday ever! With all the glorious sunshine, there was little need to go on excursions. Hence, the adults could unwind completely whist he children entertained each other. We will certainly return!

“An escape from reality - just what we needed”
Reviewed 1 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We have just spent a week in the straw cottage, a perfect break away.
An escape from the real world. The children loved the freedom to be able to run, build dams, build dens and explore. We had a week of quality family time, playing, exploring and cuddled up in front of the fire for stories.
The boys loved going up to the farm to visit Ash & Mossy (the dogs) and the horses.
Margot & Anthony made our stay a very memorable one, providing us with everything we needed, they drew us maps of nice walks and left us lots of materials to make a great den. They always made us feel welcome when we popped up, and chatted with the boys and made sure they brought the dogs out so the boys could have a cuddle. The perfect hosts.
Would definitely go back.
