“Exceptional in every way”
Reviewed 30 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We loved the Red House. It is an old building that has been beautifully renovated with great care and attention to detail. Very comfortable and well equipped with a lovely homely atmosphere. Bedroom on a mezzanine floor. Very modern wet room downstairs.
Great location - near Tarbert and the ferry from Uig. Not far from the main road but the last part is a fairly rough track ( but once we had done it a couple of times it was fine). Then a walk up a footpath from the parking place. So not suitable for anyone with mobility problems.
All of this makes it seem more remote than it actually is. Sheep all around. Seals cavorting in the bay. A great place to relax and unwind. We loved it and wish we were still there!

“Beautiful, awe-inspiring setting, artistically crafted and well appointed cottage for two”
Reviewed 19 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We just spent a week at the Red House near Tarbert on the Isle of Harris and couldn't have been happier with our accommodations. A former "Black House" that was totally redesigned and modernized by its owners Alisdair and Tracey to become a terrific cottage for two with excellent "feng shui" and views of the surrounding bay and rock encrusted hills of Harris. Alisdair is the master carpenter and metal worker who redesigned and re-built the cottage. Tracey, his wife, is an exceptionally talented artist whose water colors and needle work depicting the surrounding scenery make the interior of the cottage a delight. A telescope on the upper floor looks out onto the bay where seals can be seen during the day hauled up on a small island. Within a few minutes drive is the town of Tarbert where supplies can be had. A lovely welcome package of fresh eggs, prosecco, bread and butter, and hot chocolate awaited us on arrival. The Red House is highly recommended for your visit to Harris.

“Fabulous”
Reviewed 13 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Situated on a small peninsula just outside Tarbert and adjacent to a beautiful bay full of seals, we found the red House to be the perfect foil for a weeks stay on Harris. Everything on this wonderful, spectacular island is within easy reach, the only issue is that it took us so long to get anywhere, what with having to stop every few minutes as another wonderful vista opened up before us. The house is only half an hours walk from Tarbert and actually reasonably close to the owners own property, but has that wonderful feeling of isolation and rugged remoteness.
Inside is fantastic. It's snug, warm, inviting and comfortable with a clever mix of original blackhouse and modern amenities. We received a warm welcome and some beautiful salmon midweek, but the owners were unobtrusive which really made us feel this was OUR house for the week. Yes, the walk from the car to the cottage can be a pain in the wind and rain, but hey, this is how people lived and only adds to the experience.
A perfect spot for a couple to stay and one I would return to in a shot!

“great location, super cottage”
Reviewed 8 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Ideally located to explore Harris this cottage has everything you need. The owners, Tracey and Alisdair, are very welcoming. We really enjoyed staying in the Red House as a base for our week's holiday.
