“Amazing Spa Day for the mummys”

The Spa at the Macdonald Marine Hotel

excellent spa day with a group of mummys - the lunchbox was a great idea and a good choice of contents.
The pool area needs a few more loungers to cater for the numbers but the treatments are amazing and the quiet area after is really relaxing and comfortable. Really chilled out day in a lovey setting.

Arrived to what I thought would be a relaxing day out as I had been previously and had thoroughly enjoyed this. What a disappointment!!!! The swimming pool was cold, the Jacuzzi pool barely warm and you could even sit in the steam room for hours as it was not that hot. There are no longer tea or coffees available unless you wish to pay extra and sit upstairs but that was part of the day previously where you could go into the relaxation room and actually relax!! This room was also freezing and everyone was trying to get near a heater. The chair/beds are filthy and not all had blankets. Everyone was complaining but no one was at all helpful, the girl on the desk said there had been problems but the place was on the up!! If that is the case why I would have hated to see it previously. As for the afternoon tea, we were left waiting for over 20 minutes before anyone comes to see you, windows are filthy and they have tried to cover the torn chairs with throws so that you cannot see them. The only thing I can say was that the treatments were good and the waitress did her best. For a hotel that is supposed to be 4 star it was more like 2 star.

We have been regular visitors to the Marine Hotel over the past ten years and always return as the area has plenty to offer. Upon arrival we were allocated a room which was not up to our expectations and requested to be moved to another which to the credit of the reception staff was made possible despite the hotel being fully booked. The room allocated was on the ground floor with a street view was for one night of our stay. Tracey in reception was outstanding in arranging a move to a room which met with our expectation of our booking for the next night, the room was on the second floor with sea views which is why we return on a regular basis. The restaurant was very busy for breakfast on both mornings as a result of the hotel being fully booked and resulted in lengthy delays, however the staff were all friendly and the breakfast of a very high standard certainly made up for the wait. The hotel is going through a modernisation programme which is certainly making an improvement to both the room facilities and décor. The staff are a massive attribute to the hotel and obviously work extremely hard to ensure the guests are looked after, again I mention Tracey and Spencer who clearly went the extra mile! Thank you

My friend and me had a very enjoyable day. Staff were welcoming and after supplying us with our robes and towels we spent time in the outside jacuzzi (quite an experience at this time of year!) and in the pool before going for our treatments. Caroline gave me a lovely facial and a foot massage which I thoroughly enjoyed. We were then shown up to a room overlooking the Bass Rock for a leisurely afternoon tea - lovely plate of sandwiches, scones and cakes which finished off what was a very successful day out,

Myself and 3 friends visited for a “luxurious spa day with afternoon tea and prosecco”. Before even visiting, it was obvious that they were understaffed. One of my friends phoned the spa about 30 times over the course of the week with no answer. The staff that we did come across were lovely and helpful, but upon arrival we were made to wait about 30 minutes for our robes and slippers etc and to be shown around. Again, it seems this is because they were understaffed.
The facilities were great, one steam room did not appear to be working, but it wasn’t too busy so we weren’t too bothered. The main issue with our trip was the afternoon tea. We were escorted upstairs to a bar/ restaurant area and no staff were to be seen, the woman escorting us had to go find someone. When she did locate a man (appeared to be management, but not entirely sure), it became clear that there was no table set up for us and we had to wait for one to be cleared - not too much of a problem.
The poor waitress appeared to be running the place alone, so needless to say, it was a while before we received our food. It took even longer for us to receive our plates and cutlery. The biggest issue is that when we inquired about the prosecco, the manager (again- assuming he was) came to tell us that we were not entitled to that and we will need to pay extra for it. The whole encounter was quite uncomfortable as he seemed to be suggesting we were fishing for free stuff.
After showing him a conformation email stating what we had booked and that it included prosecco, he disappeared, came back and cleared tables. He then eventually told the waitress to bring three glasses of prosecco and never came over to say another word to us.
We were not too bothered about a few measly glasses of what I assume was relatively cheap prosecco, it was more the principle that we were denied what we paid for.
If in fact prosecco was not included, I would suggest the hotel/spa change the title of the package.

That one encounter put a damper on an otherwise enjoyable stay...
The spa staff were lovely (albeit overworked) and the treatments were great!
