We've been going there for fifteen years, more or less. The food was usually very good value and the service, by Ana and Jessica, very good. Also when Andy was the male waiter, he was amazing. Then things changed. Some new staff came along and they were not as welcoming or helpful. Today was a shocker. They refused to honor the reservation we had made on the terrace despite there being lots of tables unoccupied (with reservation plaques on them, apparently some reservations are more privileged than others?) I shan't bore you with the details but attempts to adjust ourselves comfortably failed. The female staff - two persons - were both unhelpful and patronizing in their different ways. So we left. I would advise the (apparently absentee) owners of this business to examine their staffing policy carefully. Getting tough with passing trade is all very well but in the quiet season it pays to be decent to your long term customers and simply honor a reservation made on the phone properly, kindly, politely and without patronizing the customer.Fortunately we had a lovely meal at another place not far away where the staff were really nice. I think the Sandpiper might feel it's on top right now but with this kind of service it's had its day and it's not going to work out that well in the end. Meanwhile, Fuengirola offers lots of nice places to eat and drink where I and my friends - nice, quiet people who tip well - will not be insulted. I am pleased to say our evening was not ruined and I believe market corrections will eventually take care of bad service.
