“For that special treat”
Reviewed 21 January 2006

My husband and I arrived for one night's stay at the Nuremore, this being are third visit. As we pulled up to the hotel we both wondered if our stay would be as memorable as the other two times. We need not have worried. As before, the welcome and food was first class. The meal itself on the Saturday night was worth travelling to Monaghan for - the chef is only a young guy but has won awards. Every mouthful was divine! and the service was just perfect - attentive but not "too posh"!!! The room (an executive suite) was spacious and had lovely views over the golf course and lake. The only thing that I think personally lets the hotel down a bit is the leisure facilities - this area all looks like its tired looking and could do with a re-fit. But otherwise, the Nuremore for us scors 10/10 - we will definitely return for that special occasion. Well worth a visit.

The Nuremore Hotel is a wonderful country retreat with a full golf course and only 70-something rooms. Everything is relaxed but top-class, with fantastic food and even better service. We love it so much that we're having our wedding reception there next March!!

The restaurant is wuite large with very opulent chandeliers and furnishings. The food, from award-winning chef Raymond, is out of this world, while the waiting staff are always friendly, polite and helpful to the end.

The rooms are individually decorrated which makes a nice change from staying somewhere where all the rooms are carbon copies of each other. Big, luxurious beds and views of the championship golf course make sure you never want to leave! We never do!

There is also a top-class gym, swimming pool and spa - i had a wonderful facial, back and head massage the last time i was there and will be having one before the wedding for sure!

This is a wonderful hotel that deserves recognition. Everyone in my family absolutely loves it and we've pretty much booked the place out for the wedding weekend - any excuse to stay!

Enjoy!

My husband and I spent a weekend (5/6 November 2004) at the Nuremore hotel in Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, Ulster. I have rarely tasted better food in Ireland, and certainly not at the price. The sommelier and maitre d', Frank, was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The chef, Raymond McArdle, is a genius. Our room was comfortable. The staff were genuinely welcoming and friendly. The only downside was the public space which had only a small (gas fired) mock coal fire for a huge area that cried out for a big fireplace and a roaring log fire in winter. We didn't play the golf course, which looked interesting. The swimming pool was a good size and there was a steam room as well as a sauna. Definitely worth a visit for the food alone - cooked and presented with imagination, subtlety and flair.

My wife and I recently spent a superb weekend in this hotel. Everything about the experience was excellent but we particularly enjoyed the food. We discovered after our evening meal that the Irish chef of the year for last year and this year were the careful preparators. It was interesting and different without being particularly expensive or too rich and overwhelming and the sommelier was very knowledgeable and concerned to get things right. The service too was superb in all aspects of the hotel, helpful and friendly without being obsequious. With its great setting, excellent golf course and leisure facilities the hotel is a paradigm example of how to do it right. Worth a visit from the professionals to learn from. I have stayed in much more expensive hotels which came nowhere near these standards.
