“A bit pricey for what you get”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2010

The staff are very friendly, and as other reviews have said, the location is great, the beach is beautiful. But €50 for a double with shared bathroom and self-serve continental breakfast is a bit much.

The building itself is a bit of an eyesore, but that fits with most of the "development" on the Donegal coast. At least it is not built directly on top of the dune system - like the cluster of houses outside the window. How did they get there?

Stayed at Finn McCools for a long weekend and had a great time. The lodge is perfect or anyone wanting a chilled break beside the beach. Good bars nearby and if you don't fancy cooking try the Gaslight for food, fab! Surf boards etc to rent next door and beach only yards away, the owner Neil is a great host. Hope to be back soon!

Ended up here by chance on a random weekend away with some friends- but will definetly be back! Such an amazing location right on the beach and our room had a fab view right down the beach. There's a local pub a minutes walk away and a few nice restaurants (we were too lazy to cook ourseleves but the kitchen was really clean n well stocked). We went surfing on one of the days too and this beach is really good for learning (had a complete novice in our group who's fear of the waves was put right at ease by the friendly coach). Can't wait to go back...

The hostel is in an excellent base for the various surf breaks in the area. Great advice and very friendly. Surf school adjoining for anyone wanting to rent gear or try surfing for the first time.

The Surf Lodge is the perfect spot to stay if you want a cozy and laid-back atmosphere within a few steps (literally!) of the beach. From my bed I could see all the way down Rossnowlagh Beach and with the window open I could hear the waves breaking. Fabulous.

The Lodge has everything independent travellers need: a fully stocked kitchen, cozy sofas for resting after a full day in the ocean, a good hot shower, and comfortable beds! Everything is fresh and clean, and decorated simply but really well. It's a great place to stay and the location could not be better.

The adjacent surf shop has boards and wetsuits for hire, and can also provide lessons. It really couldn't be a better place for a surf holiday!
