We arrived, checked in and were given the key card to our room - 106. Off we went looking forward to getting settled in after a long journey - as we let ourselves into the room I noticed the lights on, then a jacket thrown over a chair and then legs on a bed!!! Turning on our heels we realised other guests had already checked into "our room". Very embarrassing!! Back we tracked to reception to explain our discovery. In fairness the receptionist dealt with the issue quickly and without any fuss (or any fuss on our part I should add) and we were given a new room - an upgrade.
Upon arrival at the 'new' room everything looked great - big room, lovely decor, nice bathroom.
During the course of our stay we would have appreciated more coffee sachets/tea bags on the complimentary room tray. The bed, while comfy, was a tad squeaky. TV reception was a bit hit and miss.
We ate in the bar on one of the nights. My partner had fish and chips which he enjoyed. I had the pasta - it was tasty but €16.95 for penne pasta, pesto, a few olives and sundried tomatoes was a bit steep. The biggest rob however was the side of fries I ordered - a small bowl of skinny, tasteless, anaemic 'fries' for the whooping sum of €4.95! Shocking!! Come on chef - we love our chips,...We arrived, checked in and were given the key card to our room - 106. Compliments however to whoever made the cocktails we ordered after dinner - so good we had two!
Breakfast in the morning was self service - it was fine, but self sevice is not to my personal liking. Continental offered a good selection. Hot food was alright - mushrooms tasteless and we would suggest having beans on offer too if possible.
Overall we had a pleasant stay. Staff are friendly and welcoming. The pool and leisure area is a welcome retreat. The hotel decor is great in places but carpets and some furnishings are probably in need of replacing in other areas.
A bus sevice just a couple of minutes walk down the road brings you into the city centre and there is a lovely shopping centre close to the hotel also.
