As previously well described, this charming oasis on the Lake is tranquil and serene with no distractions. Take a kayak and lose yourself in the middle of Atitlán. Mario and Jerry attend to every need in a timely and gracious manner. Everything was perfect including pick up in Guatemala City and all of the boat rides from the Villa to the various towns were on schedule and perfect. Breakfast and dinner were adequate and we ate lunch on our daily excursions outside the villas. Immaculate pool, hot tub, sauna and spacious accommodations made for an absolutely wonderful 4 night stay. I highly recommend Atitlán Villas.

Our friends and us stayed here for several days. Very beautiful views, great rooms, a sauna, workout room, and restaurant on the property. They could add some games to the rooms. We did have a nice tv in the main room of our two bedroom villa.Very accommodating! Highly recommend.

This is an unusual and excellent hotel. It is perched on the shores of Lake Atitlan with rooms with some of the most fantastic mountain/water views I have ever seen. It is a new hotel, with large, well-maintained rooms, all with balconies. We didn't mind the 70 steps that lead to our apartment, but some might prefer the lower units that involve less climbing. There is an (unheated) pool, a jacuzzi, free kayaks, and a restaurant. The staff is friendly and efficient, especially the cook and his wife.

There is, however, one drawback -- at least some might consider it a drawback, others an asset: the hotel's isolation. It is accessible only by boat and there are no restaurants, bars, shops, etc. within easy walking distance (San Antonio Palopo is about an hour's walk away, via steep paths and dirt roads). The hotel offers guests free pick up from either San Lucas or San Antonio Palopo and in our case one free round trip to either of the latter two towns. You are therefore limited to the hotel's kitchen if you don't want to pay for a boat ride -- or if the weather doesn't cooperate and the lake is unsafe for travel. This is not a fate worse than death: the restaurant is quite good, although the small selection would make it tiresome for more than a brief stay. Also, remember that you are going to have to constantly be shelling out for expensive boat transportation; factor in at least a minimum of $50 per couple/ day for boats.

All said, however, Villas Atitlan is a splendid experience and a fine place to get away from it all. A few small improvements would enhance it further:
*** A heated swimming pool. The unheated one was very cold; remember, Atitlan is about a mile high!
***Better and more extensive internet service. Currently there is only sporadic service in the common areas and the restaurant, and nothing in the rooms.
***Better equipped kitchens in rooms. Ours was a large kitchen, but it lacked such basics as cookie sheets for the oven, decent knives and spatulas, and pot handlers.

All in all, Villas Atitlan is a relaxing experience and a good base from which to explore the lake. We enjoyed our stay.

Room tip: Higher up has better views, but there are no elevators

We got married a couple days before New Years and stayed here to ring in the new year. Julio and the staff were very accommodating to allow us to book for our last minute travel, and the place was in great condition. HIs staff was VERY helpful to carry our luggage and drive us by boat from our arrival port. The views were amazing! We were very satisfied!!

Excellent place to stay, especially if you have your own boat; good restaurant available on site; A lot of other restaurants available in the nearby villages. The residence has a boat to organize excursions in the nearby villages. The hikers can reach San Antonio Palopo and Aguas Escondidas walking from the residence. Good swimming pool, tube and Gym on site.
