I have been staying at the Hotel Guadalupe since I bought property in Tilaran in 1993. Over the years Luis and his family have maintained and built the best hotel in town. The location is very nice, a block off of the plaza with parking inside a gate if you are renting a car. It is also within walking distance of the bus station on the far side of the plaza.

All the rooms are secure, clean and comfortable, and the showers warm to hot. The hotel provides cable TV and wireless Internet, which is also nice as you are starting or ending your day. The recent addition of a swimming pool and workout room is also nice. The staff is friendly and will help you in any way they can, including doing your laundry. The food in the restaurant is tasty and healthy. Above all, the rooms are reasonably priced.

Many English speaking travelers may not be familiar with Hotel Guadalupe because they stay in resorts on the lake, or near the volcano, but Hotel Guadalupe is well known among Ticos, and travelers coming to the area to study the local wildlife. If you are coming to the Volcano Arenal-Tilaran-the Lake area, and you want to save money compared to some of the resorts, you can't do better than Hotel Guadalupe.

Guadalupe Hotel was well recommended and it did not disappoint.

We needed a restful place to sleep west of Lake Arenal after a long day on the road.

Our room on the second floor was large, clean, and new.

The hotel has a very nice central location and a restaurant on the first floor.

Should you find yourself in the incredibly picturesque village of Tilarán, this is the hotel to choose for a weary traveler, especially for those seeking refuge from the heat of Guanacaste or the winds of Arenal. Impeccably clean, exceptionally professional and attentive front desk staff, and an attached wonderful dining facility. Walking distance to everything in town, and outstanding free Wi-Fi service. IF access to cable TV is a requirement, Hotel Guadalupe does not disappoint. A great bargain for what is offered. And functioning air conditioning is a true luxury. Do NOT expect hot running water at the bathroom faucets; it is simply a lesson in cultural adjustment. Nor can a traveler expect to be greeted in English; without Spanish skills the traveler will need to resort to pointing, and pen & paper negotiations over price. Nonetheless, the menu at the restaurant facility is translated into very good English which allows the use of the index finger to point at the desired meal. The kitchen is open to suggestions for changes for the diet conscious, whether it be low-sodium, a particular dish, or of a diabetic nature. One further cultural note for at least the North American traveler: expect an exceptionally FIRM mattress, and I mean "ROCK-solid"; there are no pillow-top mattresses. Nonetheless, this IS the place to stay while in Tilarán! A swimming pool will be fully functional within several months of this review. MOREOVER, make certain that you've called ahead for reservations; this facility does get full even mid-week.

Room tip: Avoid rooms with windows fronting the main street as there is a large amount of traffic noise.

Nice hotel located downtown Tilarán.
The rooms are clean and cozy. They are not really fancy, but you can definitely rest there. The price is also appropriate.
The breakfast they offer is good.
We have stayed there 2 times already.

These rooms are clean, comfy, and new. There is only one other hotel in town (Hotel Mary) with comparable quality, but Guadalupe is far and away the nicest place to sleep in Tilaran proper. The attached diner is nice and serves good food, but I suggest you walk down the street to Moya's Place for a very nice dinner if you can. Compared to hotels of similar quality in more touristy towns, Guadalupe is a great price.

Make sure to call well in advance as they are almost always full, even low-season weeknights!

Room tip: Try to get one in the newer building, and make sure you ask for a/c since they do not charge extra for it.
