Drake Bay is a great place to get a way from it all. small restaurants/clubs, 2 small grocery stores, and all dirt roads are a few things you should expect staying at Cabinas Pura Vida. The place itself is family run and has a really cozy feeling. While your room is pretty basic (no t.v. /coffee machine, bar fridge), you also have access to a community kitchen with all your needs and porch with hammocks if you want to relax or do some birdwatching. But you will probably want to spend most of your time down at the beach or on excursions, as there is so much to see and do. The owner was great in offering me rides down to the beach for my excursions, even though it was a short walk, and even offered laundry service. There is no safe in your room, but you have a lock for your door. They will clean your room while your away, but nothing that had monetary value was ever touched, so I don't think you have anything to worry about. Breakfast was great, and even though I speak absolutely no Spanish I got along just fine. The nightlife seemed pretty good. Everything here is pretty laid back and the food was a lot better than I could have imagined. Keep in mind if you are travelling by boat that it is a wet landing into drake bay so wear shorts and sandals. If your bags are too heavy someone else will carry them.
I suggest trying out the snorkelling on Cano island. I also suggest applying abundant sunscreen to your back or keeping your shirt on.

Room Tip: Ask about the trail you can walk for free that leads to a national park (you are not allowed to enter park without guide)

Stayed here for 4 nights and we were satisfied with it. The owner were very helpful and gave us suggestions about where we could go by car to se lovely surroundings and another beach than Drake bay. He could also help with tourbooking. The breakfast was included and they served us different ones every morning. It was absolute OK but had been the best if some fruit had been added. The room was clean and the shower had warm water. AC is working well. There were a table and chairs outside our room and that was to clean. They have a kitchen fully equipped with fridge, small freeze, wich you share with the other guests and it was very nice to have. It's only a short walk from the center and beach. It was quiet in the night and the bed were comfortable. I rekommend this place and if we come back we would stay here again.

Casa pura vida is a top place to be. We had a really good time with Norlyng and Gabi. Really clean rooms and bathrooms, breakfast is included and changes every day, fresh towels and sheets every few days, hammocks everywhere and a kitchen to make your own dinner. Norlyng brings you to whereever tours are starting and picks you up after. Since we booked all the tours with him Gabi did also our laundry twice!
Norlyng also arranges everything for you regarding your arrival and departure details (boat/bus/taxi). Which was really nice since he knows the right people.
We would definitely stay here again the next time!

The room was basic but clean and well-maintained. The owner, Norlyn, did a fantastic job scheduling guided adventures for us. He knows the guides and they were all skilled, knowledgeable, and professional. The horseback ride to a waterfall was unexpectedly lovely. We rode in a stream surrounded by jungle and we were able to swim in clear water below the falls.
Be sure to bring a lot of cash (US dollars are OK) because it is best to pay for everything in Drake Bay using cash.

Four of us stayed here for 3 nights in December 2016. The owners were very nice and helpful. The rooms were clean and big enough for all of us. We really loved the large communal kitchen and BBQ and the hammocks out front - we could cook and the kids could chill and visit. The breakfast was good and the sitting area is a nice place to watch the birds in the morning. Would definitely stay there again!
