There is nothing fancy about Silver Dragon. There are no great art works, plush seating, curtains, what-nots. There is simply a welcoming family with smiles and eagerness to serve you wonderful Chinese food in the restaurant or to take out. The best recommendation of the cuisine is that almost every day at lunch time there will be gatherings of Chinese gentlemen and families, along with a mix of whiter folks who love good food.
The food is what it is about. And the food is fresh. The vegetables are well cooked and still crisp. They tell you that they have not been sitting in refrigeration for ages. Meats and sea foods are ready to be eaten as well. The portions cover the plates.
Taken home as carry out the amount of food in those traditional paper containers is more than enough for two with moderate appetites. One eater is well satisfied.
For an outsider, the hours seem restricted. But the family explains that their closing at 5:00 p.m. was motivated by people not coming later in the day. Six hours a day, six days a week are plenty of time to be at Silver Dragon and enjoy. (Closed on Wednesday)

Fabulous food. Look at the Chinese menu in English in addition to their regular American menu. This is where you will find the true gems. Their dumpling soup is a treasure to the palate. Shrimp and lobster sauce is outstanding as is their French-style filet. Can't wait to visit again. Not fancy inside but wow what great food. Closes at 5 pm and Wednesdays is the only downer!

They gave us the American menu at first but my husband asked to see the Chinese menu. We ordered items off of each. The chicken corn soup was delicious. All four of us liked our entrees and the portions were large. They were willing to leave out items we didn't want and prepared everything correctly. It is very plain decor inside and the parking lot is small. Don't park next door at Filiberto's or your car will be towed. We did not know this until we saw the sign on Silver Dragon's door. There wasn't any sign on Filiberto's and we parked there, then had to go back and move our car. This is a good choice for traditional Chinese food or the "Americanized" Chinese food.

My wife and I have been regulars, devotees even, of this hidden jewel for many years. Imagine our disappointment when, in 2007 they "retired" to make way for the light rail terminus on the site of their former premises. A couple of years ago they reopened on 17th Ave/Glendale with the same delightful menu. I add that I have visited Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Shanghai numerous times. While they of course cannot offer the variety of those locales, they nonetheless have preserved the culinary art, which they offer unreservedly to their patrons. There are two menus: American "Chinese" and authentic Chinese. We mainly choose from the latter but the American menu also has its delights - skillfully and freshly prepared to order - no buffet here. Try the crispy chicken or duck, sole with scallions and ginger, walnut shrimp, HK style dumpling soup. The menu is varied and a sure sign of its appeal is the many native Chinese, who dine here. The restaurant is family run. You have to really press them for recommendations, because their palate is different to ours (e.g. bitter melon). This is a closely-guarded, secret place. Owing to their long hiatus, the clientele is more scarce than before but you always are ensured of a place and welcome. We have hosted birthday bashes here and they take it in stride. Ask for Chinese style service, where the dishes are served consecutively instead of simultaneously - it is a more enjoyable and polite way to enjoy the experience.

Fabulous authentic Chinese food. Ask for their Asian menu with English subtitles. Fabulous dumpling soup serves 3-4. Their shrimp and lobster sauce is outstanding...just like New Yorl China Town best!! Never had anything but wonderful food with good service. Their duck is crispy and delicious as is their French style filet of beef with a sauce to die for! House special fried rice and fun noodle dishes are all outstanding. Bon appetite!
