We were part of a Gate 1 group that stayed there for one night. Glad I did not have to worry about finding this place. It is far away from Baños and many back roads led us finally there. There is a main house and some other buildings scattered around the property. We stayed in number 23, a single unit that looks like a cube. There are huge windows looking out over the country side, but the view of the volcano was obstructed by a dead tree. Also the area in front of number 23 is ugly and needs upkeep. The decor inside was very modern with straight, clean, lines. There were two double beds with duvets that were a little too warm for the night we spent there. The shower had a drainage problem and the water was flooding under the sink and even entered the living room and bathroom. So I had to mop up the extra water with a nice white towel. The main attraction during the night we stayed there was the volcano that had started to spout steam. We got some nice night shots with the steam column clearly visible. The food was nothing special. I had filet mignon and it was fine. Breakfast was a crepe and bacon and eggs I asked for cereal and yogurt and got that without a second question. The common areas in the main house are full of antiques and worn sofas and chairs, even a fireplace that was lit in the morning. So I guess we lucked out and had the best of both worlds, modern single standing chalet with old-world charm in the common areas. I enjoyed our stay at this hacienda and will always remember the awesome view with steam erupting from the volcano.
