I originally looked at the iconic Llao Llao, but when I found it was 26 km from downtown Bariloche, I decided to stay at the Hotel Cristal smack, dab in the middle of town, on Mitre Street. This proved a good choice since we were near lots of key spots, restaurants and shops--including the array of incredible chocolate shops. The hotel is old but well renovated, with a good shower head. The service was excellent. We found a young lady (Romina?) to be super helpful, along with a young man called Ian. It was a also good launching point for our many excursions. The free breakfast buffet was very good, with a terrific assortment of fruits, breads, cold cuts and pastries. The scrambled eggs were done well and the hots dogs were tasty and spicy. I certainly recommend the Cristal.

I really wonder about the glowing reviews for this hotel. It is a hole! It is old, run down and reminiscent of a motel 6. The state of this hotel is laughable for a so called 4 star. The only redeeming aspect is the downtown location.

This hotel is really worth staying at, the location is perfect, the rooms are new, spacious and clean, they have a very nice heated pool with jets for massages and the breakfast is very complete and delicious!

By far the best location! So close to all the restaurants and main square! The room was not quite a '4 star' room as advertised and the bathroom left a lot to be desired. The breakfast was rather simple and underwhelming, and the staff were quite unhelpful the two or three times we asked them questions. Poor information regarding activities and recommendations. Overall it had a great location but not much else.

Overall, this was a very good hotel for our purposes, if one wants to stay in the city, which for us was too crowded. Better to stay out along the lake. The hotel itself is notably clean, attractive, and a very good value.
The one negative, sour note was that when we arrived, although having booked our reservations a month or two in advance, we were told no room was available, they were overbooked and offered us what seemed to be a upgrade, impressive looking large hotel along the lake. But we did not want to be moved out, and when we insisted were given a room, passing the problem, we gather on to another unsuspecting couple.
Still the rest of the stay was quite fine, once this problem was resisted.
