As soon as I arrived at RioMel Lodge I was immediately greeted by the irrepressible Jorge Echevarria and his wife Nelly. This warm and friendly team were catering to my every need and made me feel like one of the family; their 2 sons work the lodge also. Hospitality is on display here.
The Lodge rooms were very comfortable, with king size beds and modern bathrooms. The common room in the lodge was warm and friendly, with large chairs and couches in front of the beautiful stone fireplace. I also stayed in one of their cabins and these were large and comfortable as well.
Meals were of very high quality and simply delicious. It was like dining in a high class restaurant every night.
Jorge is a master fisherman who has traveled the world seeking unique fishing opportunities and as such he was a wealth of information and a willing teacher. The Rio Melaquina itself is a pretty little river that has great access for most of it's 20 or so kilometres. Jorge graciously taught me many of the rivers' hot spots and fishing techniques.
I highly recommend Rio Mel Lodge to those looking for a pristine river fishing experience in a quiet and extremely beautiful setting.More
