We spent the day at El Pedral. They picked us up close to our hotel in Puerto Madryn and dropped us off there at the end of the day. We drove first to the lighthouse at Punta Ninfas where you can see amazing views while standing on top of the cliffs, and, looking down below, you can see the elephant seal colonies. We then drove to the estancia where we were joined by a guide. We drove a little further, then walked to the penguin colony. The scenery is lovely and pristine. When we reached the beach I think we saw as many penguins as at Punta Tombo, but this was more intimate as there were no other people around. We then returned to the estancia for our lunch of roast lamb after which we had a chance to walk around the beautiful grounds before heading back to town. This was a great day trip and I highly recommend it.

Besides the great social experience in the house it's the private wonderland around the normandy house, which leaves years Long memories. And ... as guest you have it all for yourself. Orcas, seals, sea elephants, pinguins and more, depending on the month of travelling,

Be careful not to miss the gate to El Pedral Lodge as it is not very well sign posted! El Pedral Lodge is a Victorian Villa now belonging to a company which owns Yellow Submarine in Puerto Pyramídes. At time we were there we were the only guests staying. We were received by Gaston who was to be our guide over the next two days. We were very happy with him as he did everything he could to make our stay unforgetable! His English was very good, he was enthousiastic and besides his overall knowledge he was a great host.vwe will never forget our visit to the deserted penguïn beach on the day of our arrival. It as magical to see all the Magellan penguïns come back from the sea with fresh fish in their bellies to feed the small ones. The penguïns seemed to be very relaxed with their visitors and even approched us to have a closer look. It was a marvellous experience which we will never forget. The next day we went down the same beach and a aloung walk to sea the sea elephants resting on the beach and swimming in the sea. When we got back Gaston learned from another guide that killer whales had been spotted near the lighthouse at Punta Ninfas. We drove up quickly and saw them in the far distance which was great to see. In the afternoon we visited the estancía 'across the street' with the same name to see some colonies over there. We were pleased with our room wich was very clean and had a good bath room. The room was located in one of the two buildings near the villa where the main facilities are. In the villa you will find a nice sitting room/ lounge area with telescope, books and here they will serve dinner or in the somewhat more formal diningroom where breakfast is erved as well. We think the food prepared by Sylvia was the best during our trip to Argentina and Chile. Very, very good and a nice presentation. We were served by Carmen, a friendly lady who lives on the premises and speaks only Spanish. Sylvia needs to be supervised a little more. Overall a great experience. We hope that the company who owns it will leave it as it is. We don't know how it will be if they have small tour groups from ships or cruises starting in Puerto Madryn or Puerto Pyramídes. They are building a jetty right now. Free wifi the evening, but sometimes difficult connection which is not unusual in this remote part of the world.

Our family had a wonderful experience visiting estancia El Pedral. After a long bumpy ride we finally arrived to an oasis in the middle of a desert. A beautiful Colonial house with a nice pool and dinning room and enjoyed a delicious asado. However the highlight of the visit was the amazing colony of penguins that lives there in the dessert next to the beach. I always thought that penguins only live in freezing places. Our guide Gaston was the best.

On our visit to Puerto Madryn, during our recent South American cruise, we had the very special opportunity to visit Punta Ninfas and Estancia el Pedregal for a delicious Patagonian lunch. This very private tour gave us the opportunity to spend time very close to over 3,000 very cute penguins all by ourselves. In contrast to the thousands of tourist who visit the other penguin destinations in the island, our family had an amaizing and very private time at this fast growing penguin colony and very well run Estancia. Our guide Gaston was excellent!
