“good location, good to relax”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 December 2011

Nice hostel with friendly rooms.
The location is super quiet, to relax by the pool. Among the Jesuit reductions, it is a walk of about 15 min, it is similar far to the bus station. Taxis are a problem, but the owner drives you when necessary.
Unfortunately, the bed was too small (about 140x180 cm) and also had a dirty blanket. The coatings as well the towels were clean.
The staff is friendly and helpful and speaks English.
If you are looking for relaxation, we can really recommend this hostel for a longer stay.

We had a double room with private bathroom: clean, silent and relaxing atmosphere. This was the best hostel in a three weeks trip in Argentina. Lot of green, nice swimming pool, the common spaces are wide and well furnished, and last but not the least those amacas below the palm trees are pure gold. Tennis table and Breakfast is rich compared to most argentinian hostels and there`s home made cake too. The kitchen is big and there's room for many at the same time. Finally the people at desk are very nice and easy going, you really feel on vacation.
One drawback is they don't accept credit card.
Highly recommended, we regret we couldn't spend more time there!

This hostel was fantastic. The rooms were cosy, with air con. The staff were friendly and able to help with everything and anything, or just have a chat.

The breakfast was full of homemade cake, frittas, jams etc - probably the best breakfast we've had in Argentina, so tasty! And good coffee.

We intended to visit lots of sights in and around San Ignacio, but as it was so hot and the hostel was so nice, we only visited the San Ignacio ruins (just a 5 or 10 minute walk from the hostel) and wandered around the village (very quiet and deserted place). The rest of the time we chilled out in the hostel communal areas... Inside there is a dining area, internet access (and wifi), sofas, pool table, table football, ping pong. Outside there's a pool, deck chairs and hammocks. The whole place is set within a whole block of the village, but is mainly garden! We loved it.

And to top it all, the friendly host even drove us back to the bus station when it was time for us to leave.

The only downside was that the shower was teeny tiny. If you're looking for a luxurious bathroom, this probably isn't the place for you - they are in need of updating. But they are clean and the water is warm.

Would definitely recommend this as both a base to see the Jesuit ruins, and a place to relax.

We had such a fun break here!

The place is really airy and there is a lovely communal atmosphere. It´s a great place to stop, relax, meet fellow travellers and totally unwind. There is a great pool and lovely hammocks to swing in during the hot days - and the kitchen is really clean and bright, with plenty of space so it makes cooking a treat - very different to some of the other hostels we have seen.

The building itself is an old 1950s hotel, and has a brilliant old school hostel vibe to go with it. By this I mean great down to earth communal areas, really friendly staff, and plenty of space to chill. There is a also a huge garden making it a really good place to cool off from the hot days - we were there in November, not even summer but the town was already sweltering. To have a pool to cool off in was a godsend.

The staff had loads of advice of what to do in the local area, and ideas for further travel. They all made us feel very welcome, even with our limited Spanish!

In short, a brilliant hostel... we only planned to stay two nights and ended up staying over a week!

This hostel was probably the most basic in terms of decoration and style of all those we visited in Argentina. There weren't any dorms available to us (whether or not they even have them, I'm not certain) so our five-strong group had to be split up, but the advantage of this was the lack of bunkbeds; for budget hostellers, a welcome one-night break! The rooms themselves verged on the grotty, with cobwebs over the windows, dusty curtains and stained walls, which instantly made me suspicious of the beds . . . but they were comparatively comfortable, the sheets were old but clean enough, and I could find no evidence of bedbugs. They appeared to be in the process of redecoration so one can only hope that they will be sprucing up the rooms in the not-too-distant future. I suspect that their state was largely to do with us turning up on the day during the low season to a little-visited town, so perhaps the dust was simply due to lack of use.

The buildings are devoid of charm and inside, it's not particularly welcoming, but given the somewhat raw materials the owners have had to work with, they've done a pretty good job and I like to think that it's ongoing. There was a whiff of school trips to Devon about the whole place but there are four lovely hammocks strung outside, a welcome pool (the town is extremely exposed and was sweltering, even in September) and a good selection of films. Plus the rooms are en-suite and there are swings and seesaws in the garden!

Arguably the best part of our stay here was the manager, Federico, who had apparently turned up to stay some months previously and never left. He was a chilled-out hippie with endless advice on the surrounding areas and great suggestions even further afield; in fact, it was he who first recommended Dos Lunas. At his request, the chef organised an asado for us that night at a bargainous AR$30 which was delicious and stomach-explodingly chockablock with ribs, sausages, black pudding, steak, various potato-based concotions and several extremely welcome salads.

There aren't any other hostels in San Iganacio so if you are looking for budget accommodation, this is it. But they're doing a great job. The rooms may be a little offputting at first glance but that's really just in comparison to the other hostels we were lucky enough to experience elsewhere; and the biggest difference is the building itself which cannot possibly live up to the converted mansions of BA or Rosario. It's a work in progress and the warmth is injected by the staff rather than the surroundings; not necessarily a bad thing at all.
