A very special place to stay

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 23 Oct 2013
The arcitectural design of the rooms is fabulous and makes the stay in this beautiful historical building even more an experience. Considerate, friendly staff know how to make you feel at home. Breakfast at the round table is superb and creates good moments to share impressions with other guests. San Telmo seems the nicest "barrio" of Buenos Aires for people with nostaligic flair. Many thanks ...

We had an excellent time in B.A. really felt like locals in barrio San Telmo . Shopping for groceries in the local market, cooking for friends in awesome Bonito's kitchen, going for walks to local attractions. And can we say thumbs up for the super delicioso breakfast with café cortado, fresh fruit, Medias lunas ( croissants) and dulce de Leche , and Petrona's orange mermelade. Thanks Bonito for a very nice stay !

We arrived at about 3AM after a marathon day of flying and missed connections/lost luggage. The owner was up to let us in and greet us. Barbara and Carlos were Cheerful morning hosts and fed us a nice breakfast each day.

Hotel Bonito is set in the heart of Montserrat, a quirky district of Buenos Aires filled with restaurants and bakeries. Definitely the 'artiest' place we stayed during our honeymoon, each room is based around the work of a different local artist, with their paintings and murals on the walls and ceilings. Our room, Jerrica Benson, was split across two levels with the bedroom on the upper mezzanine and the living and bathroom areas below that.

Good points:
GREAT breakfast - lots of pastries, bread, dulce de leche, fruit and lovely juice served to your table in the dining room.
Helpful staff - will call restaurants, taxis etc to book for you.
Free and fast wifi, and a computer provided in the dining room.
Great shower!

Not so good points:
Cold room due to heater only being on mezzanine level and having draughty windows and concrete floor in the bathroom.
Staff only around from 8.30-3pm - we had to just leave our keys on a table when checking out as no-one was around to give them to. Though they do say you can arrange for someone to be there 'out of hours' in advance, this can be difficult if you are exploring the city all day.
Some of the décor is a little worn and could do with a repaint!

Overall, we did enjoy our stay here, but weren't upset to leave.

My friend and I stayed here recently and had the best time. The staff were lovely and the rooms great. The hotel is great value, we paid $50 per night and had a beautiful room plus delicious breakfast. The staff really couldn't do enough for us. One night we were looking to find a traditional tango venue (not touristy) and the gentlemen at the front desk spent 30 minutes with us explaining the different venues, I don't think you would get this kind of service at a 5 star hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel!!

Lovely rooms, very helpful staff and good value. The breakfasts were great, but they did take a while to prepare, so I'd advise offering breakfast times when the place is full to avoid waiting times (especially if you have a plane to catch).
