Great place. You feel much more as a local than in the crowdy downtown. Worth of some walk

I visited Don Julio's for a 3rd time (having visited twice last year), it being in the same street as my hotel.

It was busier this year (notably more tourists), but it still feels very much like a traditional local restaurant, with many locals and their families and the professional helpful waiters not speaking much English - another great chance to practise your Spanish. It didn't feel like the tourists had taken it over (unlike another well rated restaurant that I visited - and left almost immediately after being seated.)

It's a great room, atmospheric, with the parilla being open to the restaurant and many bottles around the room and the sounds of people having a good time. The wine list is great, with a good selection of wines across all price bands from across Argentina. I ordered, by chance, a Malbec from Patagonia, rather than Malbec, which my waiter assured would be enjoyable - and it was.

The steak (bife de chorizo) and the green salad were just as I remembered. The steak was perfectly cooked (jugoso), tender and most enjoyable. Certainly, one of the best steaks I had in my 8 nights in Argentina this trip.

I will definitely return to Don Julio's on my next trip to Buenos Aires and highly recommend it as a fun and delicious BA dining experience.

Don Julio was very highly rated, and the food certainly did not disappoint. That being said, the service was a bit slow and it was a little loud, although these are two signs of its huge popularity. We made reservations (for a Sunday night), and there was never a free table. Would definitely enjoy going back.

Coming from NYC I think Argentina steaks are generally overrated, not so Don Julio's. It's definitely a tourist spot, but well worth the visit. Crowded during the week, but since we were on NY time, we were there fairly early. The waiter, not speaking much English, was a great help with my limited Spanish. If you are going here order steak, or go somewhere else. Pleasant ambiance, good service and a bit pricey.

Even at a fairly late hour (starting at 9.30pm) Don Julio seems to cater for the international tourist crowd rather than the BA locals. It is a big, well set-up restaurant, with experienced black-clad table staff (who have probably seen it all, in their time).
I haven't got anything to complain about in our meals (the standard parilla fare), the wine (quite a good selection), or the service (good), although the prices were towards the upper levels for this kind of thing.
It's certainly a safe option for visitors, but there is better value, and probably better steak, around in the Palermo, Belgrano and Las Cañitas areas.
