This was my husband and I 3rd time in Herdade do Touril.
Always good to be back and introduce this place to our children (5 and 2). It’s almost impossible to deny the high quality service delivered by Touril. Wonderful breakfast, beautiful landscape, an amazing swimming pool and garden areas and a very beautiful and impeccable maintained Alentejo typical property.
Unfortunately, after visiting this place for the 3rd time now, we think that Touril has somehow lost its roots. If you are looking for a pure "Turismo Rural", where you could meet the owners and hear their stories, learn about local food and culture, experience the leaving of the local people and community, Touril does not seem to be the perfect place for that anymore. It’s always crowded with staff and you understand that Herdade do Touril has now turned into a business! Also if you are staying in one of the houses located far for the main residence (such as "Casa do Rendeiro", where we stayed), it feels like you don’t belong to the Herdade.... Do not expect peace if you go outside into the garden, unless you enjoy hearing cars in the main road!
Also "value for money" is no longer one of the positive things of Touril. Just look around and see the alternatives!

Dear Paulacjoaquim,

We are very sorry to know that your stay was not fulfilling and we apologize for any inconvenience
When you booked your holidays, Casa do Rendeiro was the only available for 4 persons…we know that for a couple with young children is always preferable toasty in one of the other houses, closer to the swimming pool and main building.
We respect, off course your opinion, but we do not agree with this evaluation and the idea that Herdade do Touril is not special anymore.
Maybe because you stayed with us in a peek of occupancy, so, all the facilities were at 100%.
That might also be the reason why you mention “traffic” in the municipality road that separates Casa do Rendeiro from the rest of the houses, Probably, due to holidays and scenic strolls from other tourists…
We thank you for your comments as we are always open to critics and looking for improving. But we hope you return, maybe in Fall or Spring, because we believe you will redefine your impressions then, when not in a very high peek season

Best regards
Herdade do Touril

Wow. What an amazing property. Service was amazing. They treat you like family with a very personal touch. Went there on honeymoon and had the most relaxing stay. Its quiet. Peaceful. And gorgeous.

Breakfast was delicious.

We went there on our honeymoon and they were kind enough to leave a bottle of champagne and decorate the room.

Loved every minute here. It's not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. Alentejo coast is worth exploring and this is right in the middle so a great base for nearby beaches, walks, rivers and outdoor activities. The villas are beautifully done out. The service is impeccable. The breakfast is lovely, especially served on the terrace. The pool is fun. The outdoor Restaurant and grass area is a great place to relax. Inside all the furniture and decor is traditional but still modern. Loads of nice touches, like hidden television screens. A great place.

As soon as we arrived we regretted that we had only booked one night's stay. Our room was spotless and entirely to our taste with neutral colours and beautiful ben linen. The pool was stunning and so quiet and the breakfast the following morning was very good also. The beaches nearby (accessible by walking down steep cliffs) were some of the most beautiful we have ever seen in Europe and with barely anybody there - and In July. Just a shame that the water is so so cold! We left the following morning with a gift from the hotel of homemade bread from the kitchen and a feeling that we really hope to return.

Room tip: Ask for a neutrally decorated room rather than the 'contemporary' style they also offer. Way more modern.

Dear Francesisrael,

Thank you for your comments and hope to see you again, in a near future, and for a couple of days – because you have – still – so much to discover…

By the way, in July you mention sea water was could, but, in September we are breaking records – water as never before been so hot – just check Portuguese Newspapers!

Hope to see you soon

I really enjoyed this stay, but only wished food by the pool were better. Being Portuguese visiting Portugal I was hoping for some authentic Portuguese food!! We asked for "enchidos" platter which served more cheeses than "enchidos". Also, ordered other food which was not to our standards (octopus too salty, etc).

Note: everything else was wonderful! All staff was friendly. Breakfast was great. Accommodation was great: comfortable beds, kitchen with milk and cereals (good if you have kids), water in the fridge and in bedroom, coffee, shower in the exterior in case you want to wash off sand from going to the beach.

We walked to close by Praia do Tonel which was beautiful though not accessible to everyone! Bring water shoes to walk and then use rope to get down to beach. We didn't get to do this since we didn't bring closed shoes plus our kids were too young.

Beautiful gesture: Herdade Do Touril offered "Alentejano" bread on our way out!
