Being avid travelers, we have stayed in various types of properties ranging from hostels to 5 star luxury hotels. However, what we experienced at Poplar Lane in Oudtshoorn was not hospitality but pure affinity. Alet and Desmond are much more than perfect hosts and you feel you have known them for ages.
The initial conversation which we had when we reached the place is something which I and my wife will always cherish.

The entire feel of the place is very easy going and comfortable. At every point, Alet and Desmond made sure that we make the most of our Oudtshoorn experience as they helped us book a dinner in the top restaurant and also helped us book an appointment for Cango caves. It was also their nudge which prompted is to visit Congo wildlife ranch which too turned out to be a great experience.
Besides a great attitude, the effort which they have put into creating Poplar Lane is phenomenal. Their attention to detail is superlative and in your room you will find everything which you may need ranging from the usual stuff you expect in a room right up to safety pins, nail clippers, signages everywhere to make you feel special and even lavender sticks to keep the room fresh. Of course, the breakfast they served in the morning was fantastic.

All in all, Poplar Lane has truly raised the bar of our expectations for all our future travels. We wish our stay was a little longer.

We stayed two nights in late June and welcomed the electric blankets, doona and blankets as nights were very cold. Our welcome too was very warm, like family returning after a long absence. Overall, we felt pampered. The room and bathroom were clean and well appointed the beds were warm and comfortable. Des and Alet are excellent hosts who genuinely want you to enjoy your stay in their home and in Oudtshoorn. They gave us great tips regarding restaurants, places to go and things to do.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet and private so just pick the one that suits your need and budget.
