There might be hotels with larger rooms or more amenities, but I doubt they could rival the staff at Derwent House. When I was unsure of what to do for the day the staff stepped in and made sure I saw the best of Cape Town. The lounge is a nice place to relax after a long day traveling. I cannot recommend this hotel enough.

Dear Dean G,

We are still missing you two . . . you were here long enough to become part of the family . . . I'm delighted that we could help with your plans and help you make the most of your time in Cape Town -- that's our mission! We all really appreciate your lovely comments about the staff in the guestbook: just delighted that you felt at home.

Please do come back as promised! We'll be ready with an even better Derwent House then.

Cheers to you both,

Luca

We stayed here as a party of 4 in two rooms. What a wonderful experience! The staff who works there are young and super helpful. You can tell they are so excited about Cape Town and recommending things to do. Specifically Willem and Luca (Luka?) who were so wonderful in making accommodations for us at restaurants and suggesting things for us to do. The rooms are gorgeous and comfortable. It is within walking distance of major restaurants/shops and close to all major attractions. They also had the best breakfast of any place I have ever stayed (I travel extensively so this is saying something). Highly recommend!

Wow, ginacambs17: best breakfast of any place? That is a real accolade from a seasoned traveller like you! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with other travellers, and especially for singling out our great team. We both loved this place ALOT! The decor was so amazing, the staff were exceptional and the food was perfect! Could not fault this place at all and would stay here again no matter what when we come back to Cape Town again one day. Everything was perfect and the attention to detail made this place so special especially on our honeymoon! The staff give the best restaurant recommendations and best advice. The location for us was great! You are round the corner from many great shops and restaurants. It's very cheap to get an Uber to the waterfront and all our tours were able to pick us up from this hotel! The place is a perfect size and nice and quiet. Very relaxing atmosphere! Loved Cape Town very much and Derwent House made it extra special for us celebrating our honeymoon!

We loved having YOU! We take hosting honeymooners very seriously, and you two were just the best! Can't wait to have you back for an anniversary . . .

Indeed, our address near great restaurants and landmarks is fortuitous, but the great culinary scene came after us and loving to eat and drink as we do, we're just lucky to have the foodie scene on our doorstep--so happy we could share our insider tips with you.

Thanks so much, lbarrault, for sharing your experience here with other travellers -- we appreciate it a lot -- and so do they!

Can't wait to see you back,

Anahid, Luca, Willem

This boutique hotel in the Gardens neighborhood was the perfect base of operations for our six nights in Cape Town. The staff at this place really shines: They are incredibly dedicated to making your stay carefree and memorable. There are so many nice, unexpected touches such as complementary soup at dinner time along with a free glass of port or sherry. The comfy lounge area (with a roaring fire) was the perfect place to wrap up the evening.

You can’t go wrong here. Highly recommended.

Dear tjl202,

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your review of your stay with us here--it really means a lot to all of us. And special appreciation for singling out our wonderful team: "dedication" truly sums it up. We're delighted that you enjoyed your hot soup, port and sherry and just quiet time by the fire in the lounge as a family -- this cosy, home-away-from-home feel is what Derwent House is all about and we love it when guests embrace it!

On behalf of the whole team, sincere thanks for your recommendation!

This hotel is by far the best one in Cape Town

- The service is extremely good and people are very friendly and also insist on helping out

-The breakfast in the morning (8:00-10:00) is delicious. There is a lot of choice ranging from small pastries to meals (English breakfast, omelettes etc...)

-The rooms are very clean and proper (in winter, there are bed heaters that you can turn on and off, which is very convenient as it gets cold)

- The house is very nice with a pool and jacuzzi that is always open.

- It is close to the city center with many good restaurants around it (a really good restaurant is "The black sheep" located 5 minutes away by walking

So in all, I believe this is a great hotel because it's close to the city center, people are very friendly and the rooms are great

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Wow, Laetitia S -- that is high praise indeed! Thank you so much for your wonderful recommendation, and especially for your detailed review, letting us know what you particularly enjoyed. Our cook, Florence, is especially delighted at your comments on breakfast, which you showed such appreciation and obvious enjoyment of . . . She takes feeding guests up in the morning very seriously.

We really enjoyed having you with us and look forward to welcoming your friends and family in future. Thanks again for your lovely recommendation.

All the very best from sunny Cape Town,

Anahid & the entire Derwent team
