This hotel really exceeded our expectations. The staff was very friendly and helpful. the rooms were spacious and kept spotless. We were disappointed that the Sky Bar was not open. The hotel was very conveniently located - we walked to the waterfront for dinner several times and felt very safe. My daughter is a runner and ran every morning on the waterfront promenade. Our breakfasts were always delicious and food was plentiful. We loved staying here!

A bit of a strange place. Outwardly, the rooms are clean, spacious and the hotel is well kept. Beneath the surface, well, the story is a bit different. The staff are helpful and mean well, but there are some breakdowns in communication. It was wholly unclear where to leave the car and we ended up driving around the backstreets for some time, which was irritating.

On check-in we were recommended to use the rooftop pool and bar. Indeed, we were well aware of this and it was one of the principal reasons for booking - references to the Zenith Sky Bar abound across the internet, including the hotel's website. Unfortunately, as we found out when we got there (from a brusque and rude woman), it was closed. No note on the website, and don't forget this was recommended to us on check-in. When we mentioned this to the same person in reception later, he clearly knew it was closed. Suggesting that we went to a case next door instead was hardly a solution, and it was clear that there was no interest in providing a suitable resolution.

Won't be returning.

Fantastic location, near beach and Cape Town Stadium. Neat, well maintained and comfortable apartment. Fantastic service by owner, giving feedback on transport options to and from airport. Would definitely come back

First of all we did not have a warm welcome during the check in. After a long travel that’s what you expect and even more in a five star hotel, It would have been enough with a simple smile. We had issues with the towels. After a long day of touring we arrived in the room and saw that our dirty towels ( we left them laying on the floor) had been put back in the bathroom. When we came down to the front desk to complain we were told in a very bad manner that they only changed towels every two days due to droughts. It will be very appreciated if the front desk team can advise you of this situation during check in. F&B staff during breakfast are nice and attentive. In general terms I do not consider the hotel provides a 5 star service by far.

Until the last minute of the last day of our recent stay, I would have recommended the Cape royale to all and sundry.
some great positives
location, lots of decent restaurants, shops and amenities nearby
security, the door guys were on top of things,a lot of aggravating beggars in cape town but they were shown short shrift
cleanliness the place and communal areas were spotless
Staff everyone was very friendly and helpful, especially Tash on the main desk
hotel bar and the zenith roof bar were great hangouts

negatives
sadly on our last day the porters insisted on taking our bags to the baggage room, when our transport arrived the bags were brought by the porters to the vehicle
the loss of 1 bag was not noted till we reached Jo'burg en route for heathrow
( I should mention we had a lot of bags)
we contacted the hotel from Jo'burg and kyle informed us the bag was still there and he would arrange for its return
sadly once 8500 miles away the management decided it was our problem.
yes I guess in hindsight we never should have let the hotel employees take our bags, this was our first mistake
secondly, we were in a privately owned suite in the Hotel building, maybe we are being penalized for this?
but the Bottom line is Hotel employees took our bags (and were paid handsomely for it) and forgot one
if the management had said "lets make it happen and we will pay 50/50 of the £400 bag fee" I could have accepted this compromise.
but sadly they decided to shut up shop
Which is a shame as its a great property
My take on this is that you do not rate a business when things are going well, its how they react, when there is a problem.
Kyle was great initially, but I guess he was overruled by the senior management's short term thinking .
I dont suspect any dishonesty on the porter's part, they were good guys, just a genuine mistake, that was then aggravated by a wall of silence

Luckily a business acquaintance has picked up the bag so we can get it back.
But sadly due to the negatives in this review I wont be returning
At no point were we offered even the simplest of apologies
take that as you will.

Room Tip: the back rooms are quiet
