“Tasty tapas and craft beer at the Tyger Waterfront”

Gastao's Tapas & Craft Beer Restaurant
Ranked #9 of 87 Restaurants in Bellville
Description: Gastao's is a unique local tapas and craft beer house that provides a friendly environment for people to enjoy some of the best locally produced craft beer paired with awesome Portuguese style Tapas. Gastao's will provide some of the best Portuguese flared tapas dishes, inspired by the country's regional cuisine. We will source the right ingredients and liaise with local craft beer providers so that we provide a genuine experience for our customers. Traditionally, the serving of tapas is designed to encourage conversation, because people are not so focused upon eating an entire meal that is set before them. Served with local craft beers, tapas are based on simple, inexpensive ingredients, easy recipes and straightforward presentation. Tapas can be eaten informally 'en la barra' (at the bar) or 'en la mesa' (at a table where enough tapas can be ordered for a full meal). Rustic décor, nice tunes and warming hospitality will help to create the right ambience. What with all those bite-size delicacies to be shared, along with a pitcher of lovely craft beers and a awesome atmosphere. But in a setting like Gastao's, great food and a awesome vibe downright gives itself, body and soul, to a great relaxed time. Picture rich jewel tones and low lights, wrought-iron fixtures and a room that glows gold. Gastao's is where we hope our customers will exceed their expectations and really enjoy what local craft beer and local cuisine has to offer.

Gastao's is a fanastic restaurant located on the scenic Tyger Waterfront, offering customers a varied Portuguese-inspired menu and an array of craft beers to satisfy any beer lover. The restaurant is small and cosy, but opens up onto the deck outside during summer months. Staff are efficient and knowledgeable and the service is generally good. Highlights on the tapas menu include the arancici (chorizo arancici with smoked mozzarella), the mini espetadas and the zucchini fritti (courgette chips). Be sure to save room for the delicious desserts, the leite creme (a Portuguese milk custard with a crème brulee-like top served with almond biscuits) being a personal favourite.

Went here for a after training early dinner.

Four of us went around 1730 on a Thursday.

There are some good draft beers available and if you like ginger beer, as about their "special" one. Was pretty cool.

As starters we had a mix of 5 tapas starters which were generous portions and we'll priced at R 245 for the lot.

For main course we had the bacon jam and cheese burger which was pretty good however the waitress never asked us how we wanted the burger done so they all came pretty pink....

One brave soul had space for dessert and ordered cheese cake, which was more of a wedge and we all had a taste, pretty good.

Over all a good venue, nice vibe and decent food.

I celebrated my 30th bday party at Gastao's and it was absolutely awesome!! Wayne, the owner, as well as the staff put in a lot of effort to make it a special evening and it was such a pleasure dealing with them. The atmosphere is GREAT - cool, cosy, rustic, hip, relaxed - just the ultimate vibe you want at a restaurant. And then the food... WOW!!! Some of the best tapas and platters I've ever had and all the guests went crazy for it. It was plated beautifully and I could not stop taking photos! Oh and then the craft beers - delicious (and I don't even drink beer)! I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion, any season, day or night - you will love it!!

We celebrated a friend's birthday on a Saturday evening. The atmosphere at Gastao's is fantastic. The service prompt and friendly and the food really scrumptious.
I was so impressed to receive the Gin & Tonic I ordered in a propper gin & tonic glass - most of our table have never even seen one! We will be back to try the slider & beer tasting next time!

This place has a great vibe, good food, good service, good atmosphere and is in the Northern Suburbs! Yah, we have a decent place to hang out and catch up with friends without having to go to the Cape. If you get the tapas however, keep in mind the portions are small, they are tapas, so if you are hungry, you are better off ordering a burger, otherwise you end up spending a lot of money on tapas. We did however enjoy our evening and would definitely return. This is right beside Zilbaldoni restaurant.
