This place was wonderful! It was cozy bit very roomy! My husband and I enjoyed our getaway emmensly. We would love to go back and take rest of our family. We saw many animals and met new people. The buses were so fun. Loved this place!!!

Conveniently located near Orpen Gate, we stayed in the tents with centrally located ablution blocks. All the basics are available and all facilities are clean and well serviced. Good value for money. Next visit we will be trying the luxury tents.

Wow! The Tamboti Tented Camp at Kruger National Park was fantastic and my absolute favorite of the camps that we visited. You check in at Orpen camp (fyi, the only food options at Orpen are the groceries in the store - there is no restaurant), hit the store for groceries (there is NO food for purchase at Tamboti - it is pure self-catering) then drive 3 km to Tamboti Tented Camp. Arrive before the gates close. When you check in, you can rent dishes/cookware/utensils for a mere R20 and a box of plates, utensils, glasses, coffee cups and pan will be delivered to your tent - I am talking china ware, not even plastic ware! We had 5 people and it was still only R20 for all of us.

There are approximately 40 tents, most located along a dry river bed, providing lovely views of the bush. There is a wooden platform with the safari tent atop, providing a very sturdy and comfortable tent. Each tent has a deck, little patio with braai, overhead light, fan and electrical outlet. There are several communal kitchens (each with hot plate for cooking, sink for cleaning dishes and a boiling water dispenser - perfect for coffee/cooking). There are also communal bath houses for men and separate ones for women and let me tell you, these are THE cleanest bath houses I have ever seen. In the women's, there was a private stall with a TUB (can you believe it?!) and 2 private stalls with showers, electricity if you need to use the hair dryer (bring your own). The men's bath house included 3 private stalls with showers. Tamboti was the cleanest camp out of the 5 that we visited - spic and span. Despite the heat of the day, the evening/night were chilly enough to use the blankets provided.

We had numerous wildlife spottings from our tent including hyena, a colony of baboons, giraffe, birds and mongoose. Leave all food/drink locked in the cage or else your site WILL be rummaged by honey badgers looking for food. There is daily housekeeping service and the tents were very clean.

Tamboti was the nicest of the 5 camps that we visited AND it was half the cost of the other camp bungalows! The remoteness, absolute peace and quiet, value, amazing cleanliness and authentic safari tent accommodations earns Tamboti 5 stars.

Recommendation - bring a torch/flashlight (handy for trips to the bath house) and stay 2 nights/1 day to really relax.

Was initially reluctant about camping in a National Park, but was very happy with the set up and so pleased that we included this experience in our Kruger adventures. Tent well set up with beds, linen, fan, fridge and caged pantry, lovely deck overlooking the dry river bed and all so private from other tents. Amenities were excellent, better than most Australian amenities! No food available here so be sure to take what you need but only 1 km from the Orpen gate and shop.

Room Tip: Tent 24 and 25 very close to amenities, so convenient!
