The Wilderness Beach Hotel, is not what is advertised, The place is abandoned!
We were a group of 6 adults and 1 child, we arrived at about 4pm on Wednesday, and there was a mixed up with our rooms, the rooms were not ready (But check in is at 2pm?), Patric the Receptionist was the most unfriendly receptionist I have ever come across. He was mumbling the whole time through our check in which lasted like 40 mins, Met the manager (Indian looking) dont remember his name as was to upset with the chick in, and he was no use too... There is nothing about the place that is that is good, the cupboards were broken, Big block TVs in the rooms that we could not even see the image properly. We had 3 of the same rooms and each room had different amenities in them. TVs were not working properly and no remotes in any of the rooms, the air cons were dusty which triggered our allergies all the time we had to switch it on. I struggle to get into my room as the key would get stuck in the lock at all times. All these issues were addressed and until now we are still waiting for someone to sort it out. The attitude of the Duty manager and the housekeeping manager was horrifying, they argued with us when they were at faults and could not even apologies for the delay or anything for that matter, 3 Night, 3 Rooms it was a waste of money. Pity we could not get another place to accommodate all 6 of us. They is nothing spectacular about that place, I personally dont even think it should be graded with any star! DO NOT EVER BOOK THERE, BIG MISTAKE IF YOU DO!!!

Room Tip: Do not book this hotel!

Rooms was clean and ok, the door have poor locks wich is required in south africa or you will have burglars standing in your room in no time.

The location is great for paragliders since you can take off from the lawn just outside the hotel if the winds are in your favour. If you are not a pilot I would choose a hotel closer to the wilderness village since this is located a bit off from restaurants and pubs.

When we walked into the hotel, the reception staff were quite unfriendly and I didn't feel welcome at all. We were given a key and pointed in the direction of our room, we weren't even asked if we needed assistance with our bags! The entrance to the hotel looks very run down, and it possibly isn't dirty, but has that "dirty" look. We were supposed to stay 2 nights, but I informed the staff after we got to our room, that we wouldn't be staying another night, and booked ourselves into another hotel :(

However, the room was very nice, and we overlooked the pool area. They were doing maintenance work on the pool, but the whole outside area is very pretty. The staff that served us breakfast were very friendly and helpful.

What a pity about the reception staff and the initial unwelcome feeling you get!

What a disappointing night we had at this hotel, if I had known we would have cancelled before arriving. Only two positives was that the room was clean and the hotel is situated right on the cliff by the beach, but sadly that is where the positives stop. The hotel is rundown on the inside and the outside. There was a distinct smell of urine in the one passage and you walk past rooms that have no locks that appear to have been cleaned out in a robbery. You are unable to watch TV in the rooms as the reception is too poor, the shower did not work in the bathroom. Sadly the breakfast was so basic and unappetizing to the eye that we left without it even though it was included in the daily rate. I am shocked that a hotel in such a poor state is allowed to operate in our beautiful Garden Route.

Room Tip: Avoid this hotel at all costs!

The website is a complete misrepresentation of what the place is actually like. The place is run down with broken windows, broken locks and visible fire damage where an aircon unit obviously caught alight. The decor is outdated with fake flowers everywhere? The staff were friendly enough, but were not forthcoming with information. To find out about the restaurant opening times felt like pulling teeth. We were also not informed that the restaurant had been booked out for a private function, so we could not eat there. We found out on our last night there that they offer room service. No mini bar. We requested another towel for our daughter as there was only 2 in the room, we had to ask twice and then we were given a hand towel and a bath mat? The website mentions a hotel bar, which is not open as the place does not have a liquor licence. The play area for the kids is falling apart. One positive is that the breakfast was good. The restaurant has recently been revamped but lacks any sort of ambience.
