We were staying in the house next to the lodge, having full independence but getting advantage of the lodge. The house was huge, had a great view and a private swimming pool. The house was taken care of everyday by the cleaning staff. We had the choice to have dinner and breakfast in our house or in the dining hall.
Deers came to visit us in the morning, adding a very local touch to the house.

We spent 2 nights at the River Lodge. It was one of the most enjoyable places to stay. The food was excellent and had a good amount of variety. Beautiful, peaceful place to use as a base for visiting the area. It is a bit remote but that is what makes it so peaceful. Woujld definitely stay again if I was in the area.

Room tip: All rooms are good

We stayed for two nights. Again disappointed ti find no fridge in our room, where do they expect us to keep our chocolate/wine/pharmaceuticals?? The room was dated but nice and clean. Staff were friendly, we had to be moved because power was not on in the original chalet and they couldn't fix it. The bar was nice and the barman very good, the wifi was excellent in the bar area too. Food was decent but again the gap between courses was too short, we have found this to be the case in every lodge we have stayed at over the past two years.

This place is very special. We stayed for 2 nights, dinner, bed and breakfast. In the middle of nowhere, the surroundings are very private, wonderfully woody with a distant view of the lake from the communal areas which are very tastefully decorated with various large books on display in the lounge to view at ones leisure, really very relaxing. Wooden chalets are very spacious, clean and comfortable. Felt most welcome, the tours that were arranged (in advance) were excellent, strongly advise an afternoon private game drive, our guide was incredible, we saw 4 of the big 5 among many other animals including a pack of wild dogs. Another excursion worth doing is the crocodile and hippo boat tour in St Lucia again organised by the lodge, and it's worth stopping in at the Fig Tree cafe/Ilala weavers for a spot of lunch and browse. Our party of 8 (5 adults, 2 teens and one pre-schooler) thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hospitality was excellent, our stay felt very personal, and the food amazing, reception staff very friendly and welcoming however my only negative comment would be the ladies serving and preparing the food, they seemed if I'm honest a little miserable and fed up, it would be quite challenging to get them to smile and converse but I got there eventually, in saying this it wouldn't put me off visiting again, because everything really was excellent, I would love to go back and stay for longer.

This was an amazing place to stay. Although you may think it is far away from attractions, all was a short drive away. It was quiet and the setting was stunning. From entering the gate to the entrance. Lesley had booked a few outings for us. He's prompt reply and sorting things was so professional. Coming from Australia, we have a good idea of the standard of food. The food here was on another level! We could not wait to see what was for dinner the 2nd night, and yes it was as outstanding as the night before. Even from staff serving food and breakfast, all staff was fantastic and nothing was a problem!!

Room tip: Tip - Take mosquito spray!
