“HUGE LET DOWN”
Review of Kaya Beach Bredell

Kaya Beach Bredell
Ranked #71 of 95 Restaurants in Kempton Park
Price range: US$14 - US$21
Description: Kaya Beach is a beach themed family restaurant situated in Bredell, Kempton Park. The Kaya Beach concept is quite unique and unlike any other restaurant in JHB. We are not like other typical restaurants. We have specific sailing sessions and we follow an island programme where we bring out the meals in intervals so not like an ordinary buffet set up. We also host a fun raffle to keep our sailors entertained. Our music is a bit louder than normal restaurants, creating an awesome vibe without being too overpowering. This, together with the fire baskets situated all around the island, creates the perfect environment for rest and relaxation. What makes us a really economically friendly choice is that all our sailors (that is, restaurant patrons) are required to bring along their own cooler boxes filled with whatever it is that they are drinking. Yes, that’s right! You and your crew are allowed to bring in all your own drinks without having to pay corkage. Relax with a drink in your hand and your toes in the sand. Our menu consists of a delicious, hearty, 6 course meal. The meals are brought out in 30 – 40 minute intervals and sailors are required to dish up for themselves. If you go home hungry, you only have yourself to blame. Before I continue, it is important to warn you about the following: WARNING Please do not visit Kaya Beach if you or your crew mates are on diet. The Kaya Crew will not be held liable for any additional {but oh, so worthwhile} kg’s incurred. To start off with, we serve a divine, creamy mussel soup accompanied by the freshest homemade bread. We allow about 30 minutes to pass before we introduce the next 2 meals; our famous chicken potjie and vegetable pot. After a further 30 – 40 minutes, we bring out our signature beef potjie (our Captains favourite). Once that has settled and the feeding frenzy starts winding down, sailors help themselves to tea, coffee and koeksisters. There are no minimum numbers required to make a booking, although, we do suggest that you round up as many sailors as possible to make the most of the Kaya Beach experience. Our island makes the perfect function venue whether it is for a birthday party, engagement celebration, year-end bash or a wedding.

Made and paid up front for my booking of 6 pax, had my family up from Cape Town and one leaving for the UK end December, really wanted to spoil them with a unique day out at the beach in Bredell. Was called Saturday 17th December 2016 a day before our booking was due by Conrad very apologetic, informing me they would have to cancel or move my booking due to another group having cancelled and therefore not viable opening the beach just for us. Whilst I understood I must say very very disappointing, even though I was offered alternatives, these were just not an option for us unfortunately. If all patrons are requested to pay up front surely such a late cancellation would forfeit their payment, at least then those who had made the commitment would not be let down. SMS and emailed for my refund still no acknowledgment to either, feeling very vulnerable right now.

What an incredible venue. Stunning place with the most amazing food. Do not go there if you are on a diet - there is just so much food :) Phenomenal team that runs the place and the atmosphere is awesome. By far one of my favourite places to go. Safe and secure parking. Child friendly.

Kaya Beach offers a relaxed atmosphere where you can kick off your shoes, dig your feet in the sand and play beach volleyball or just chill next to the bonfire. The muscle soup and fresh bread to start is delicious and the chicken, beef and vegetable poitjies that follow are hot and tasty and the snoek was a treat too. Tea and coffee to finish with the loveliest koeksister I have ever had!!

This venue was perfect for the function type. I would advise people visiting Kaya Beach to go in a group for a better atmosphere and you could feel quite overwhelmed by other groups in the venue if you go as a small group or couple.

They do not have a drinks licence so you take your own cooler box and drinks. The evening session closes at 11pm which is perfect.

From the moment we arrived it was an amazing experience. We are always looking for something to do that is child friendly. KAYA beach ticks all the boxes. The staff are very attentive and make sure everyone is happy. The food was brilliant. The best thing is you can take your own cooler box with drinks. Remember your drinking glasses. If you want some something different this is the place. bookings are done on line. Well done guys for creating such a brilliant experience.

We were invited to a wedding at Kaya Beach Bredell. This is a very informal and relaxing venue to spend your evening. The food is outstanding. The cost per person includes a five course meal. As they are not registered they do not serve any alcohol or drinks, but you are allowed to bring your own in a cooler box. Regret, that no glasses are allowed as this is a "beach" area. Definitely worth a visit if you want to relax with family and friends.
