We enjoyed our stay at Hacklewood Country House. We had just finished our South African adventure and were travelling to the airport early next morning to our next destination. The room itself was fabulous, really large and spacious especially the bathroom. We stayed the whole evening in the hotel and relaxed. We dined downstairs in the restaurant and he only thing I found slightly peculiar was the fact that we had to give our dinner order hours beforehand. Dinner was nice. We did not use the pool as it was raining and slightly cooler weather but it looked lovely.

As a family of 6 we stayed here one night en route to Kwandwe Private Reserve. ( Go there too - it’s superb!)
We had 3 rooms all extremely clean, well presented and large. The beds were very comfortable and the towels and toiletries plentiful. The decor was old English - Victorian and nicely done.
The staff were very knowledgable and gave us ideas of where to go and helped with every small detail , including doing some laundry at late notice.
Only had breakfast in the morning which was a small buffet plus a number of delicious cooked items. Plentiful tea and coffee and fresh orange juice.
It was a perfect place to start our South Africa journey, great location and lovely gardens including a small swimming pool. There was also a one armed monkey around but we never saw him! I would highly recommend an overnight stay there.

Our bedroom and bathroom were excellent. The restaurant, described as having silver service, was disappointing. Yes, they have a good wine list but I don't expect my glass to be filled over half full - with a large glass. One bottle filled our two glasses twice. Our second course was brought out before our first course had been cleared and the rare steak was given to the person who had asked for medium. Quickly remedied by us of course but...
At breakfast the service was extremely slow to such an extent we resorted to making more tea in our bedroom. Maybe we just hit a bad evening when some staff were away. It was a special evening meal for my 80th birthday, offered by my friend so upsetting for her. The wine, though incorrectly poured was very good!
