Came here for just a beer tasting flight a few months ago. Their good service encouraged me to come back for their food, and the decision proved worth the effort (and $).

Very good food and good service.

This place was recommended by a mate as we needed a steak close to HBC and were starving.

Photos show what was alleged in menu but seriously this place was, unfortunately a disappointment.

We ordered three steaks, one medium rare and two rare, a rack of pork ribs and lamb shank.

The medium rare steak was served to one requesting rare. Ok, no biggie there.

The steaks came out warm as did the chips with it. The mushrooms and onions were cold... like salad cold.

Steaks were tender and nice, just not hot.

The ribs were tender and tasted ok but again were only just warm.

The lamb shank was advertised as an apricot flavour and although there was a tinge of apricot flavour, the overiding taste was tomato... canned tomato.

This was sent back by my mother who never complains because it was luke warm at best. Very tender, just not hot.

I write this review as I still sit in the restaurant which is actually quite busy so maybe the food is better than our experience.

The male waiter who appeared quite new done well and nil issues there.

The waitress was also pleasant and who when I mentioned the disappointing meals took our drinks off the bill so credit where credits due.

We didnt ask for a discount or expect one but that was appreciated.

Thank Brendon W

I've already reviewed this place, but it has improved since last time. The $20 lunch deal is awesome (a lunch-sized main plus a beer/house wine/non-alcoholic drink), and I can recommend both the lamb shoulder and the ribs. The service can be a bit blasé, but you'll leave satisfied. Make sure you eat upstairs where you've got the view - best one in Orewa on a nice day.

Nice location, great facility and good service although it took a bit long considering it wasn't busy. If you want to go to a nice bar for drinks and a few snacks then this is good place. If you want to go to a restaurant and enjoy good food and value for money, then this is not the place to go to. The food is average at best. The steak was chewy, the pasta was undercooked and the ribs, although ok could have been much better. The dessert menu options are not adequate. It is a nice place but seems a bit confused about what bar/dining experience it is catering for.

Family Sunday lunch celebration and we decided to try Coast which is located right on the Hibiscus Coast highway. First impression is the outside and ground floor area which is quite small and cramped, but the wait staff showed us upstairs which is bright, light and NOT cramped.

We sat on the front deck, overlooking the fabulous Orewa beach.

Food was amazing. Most of the party ordered Ribs and the server was very helpful in finding out if the ribs could be done in a gluten free sauce (which they couldn't).

The ribs melted off the bone, the Jack Daniels BBQ sauce was the perfect compliment to the ribs.

This is a highly recommended restaurant and if you love ribs, do try them, you will not be disappointed.

Serving staff very helpful and friendly.
