This was our second stay at Ganesh Holiday Home. We stayed in the B and B last year and loved it so much we decided to return but rented the top apartment this time. Plenty of space for two couples without being under each other's feet all the time, even had a balcony each if needed. It was nice to have kitchen facilities as the property is a bit off the beaten path. The local shop provided us well with eggs, milk, bread etc but don't expect Tesco on the corner as it only stocks the bare basics. Kovalam has a good size supermarket for a bigger shop, but with all the eateries in town you won't want to spend time cooking. A few times we sent a tuck tuck to a local restaurant for a take out, 600 rupees including transport not bad for four people. The bed was not the best I have slept on in India, a topper or thicker mattress would be good but we still managed to sleep every night.
The staff could not be more friendly and helpful, there is always someone on hand if help or advice needed. Murugan help you plan any trips you wish to take.
The icing on the cake is the lovely pool, in fact with it being a bit inland I think it would be unbearable without it. Most of our sixteen nights we had the whole place to ourselves so it was like having our own private villa and pool. It's such a shame that more people don't step a little way from the beach into this beautiful countryside. On a morning walk round the lake you are greeted with more warmth and smiles than in a month in England. Never once felt unsafe wandering around the lanes and fields. Bird watchers and photographers will be in heaven in this location with all the nature and locals going about their business.
If booking this accommodation I suggest you book direct via the website as it seems to be the cheapest option. I highly recommend both the bed and breakfast option and the apartments.
After a week in the guests rooms we transferred to the 1st floor apartment. This is our third stay in this apartment. The apartment is very spacious and spotlessly clean, comfortable beds, well fitted bedrooms, spacious and clean en suite bathrooms. The master en suite even has a bath. Two large balconies provide views of the lake and local village life, friendly local people wave and smile and you are made to feel part of this special community. The owner Murugan and all his staff are lovely and if you are lucky enough to visit when the Marketing Manager Victtoria is there it is an added bonus, a gracious and friendly lady with abundant knowledge on the locality. The owner Murugan goes out of his way to ensure that you have a lovely stay and he can arrange all kinds of sightseeing trips as well as local transport. We were tempted to have a few days 'at home' enjoying the pristine swimming pool, the lovely balconies and the amazing ambiance. The whole property is kept spotlessly clean. The local area and further afield is worth exploring, our favourite place for lunch or dinner was at nearby Samundra Beach. Rickshaws will take you here there and everywhere for just a few pounds and Murugan can arrange a taxi for longer trips. The setting besides the lake is amazing and the apartment and its environs a lovely retreat where nature abounds. Its worthwhile to take binoculars with you and while away time watching the lake with its wild life. For us it is somewhere very special, thoughtfully designed with love and care it has everything we could want on holiday plus extra touches such as the roof terrace. It is close to all the amenities that Kovalam can offer but is a peaceful retreat to return to. The way the apartments and separate guests rooms are designed means that you have privacy but the property would work well for large family or groups of friends. We look forward to our 5th visit.
