The wine cellar inside the brasserie at the Renaissance was definitely a special treat for my birthday. There is a dinner table set up inside the cellular. The Head chef at the hotel suggested a 6 courses meal for us which was included lobster bisque, Filet Mignon, table side hand made tiramisu, and two bottles of wines. The red wine was perfect matched for the filet. The filet was the best I have had in China. The staff showed what it took to serve a 6 courses meal at a 5 Stars facility. They were very professional, courteous, and very knowledgeable on wines. Last but not least, the price per person was only 497 RMB per person, and the was a bargain in a 5 stars hotel restaurant in China. Finally, I want to tell the world that YES you can have a nice romantic dinner and a USA like steak in Tianjin TEDA Renaissance Brasserie.

We were served a "Chateau Leselect" Riesling french wine priced at over 50USD a la carte menu (from Alsace region, border with Germany). This wine is supposed to be white but on the bottle it was written "Cote Rotie" that is a name of a french red wine in Burgundy. The taste was just disgusting and we returned the bottle. When we asked the German Chef, we have been told "this wine comes from Shanghai"...For this class of hotel chain, it is very surprising to discover this kind of things. Besides that the service was poor, the bottle did not come cold or in glass, opening the bottle was a real challenge.
The food basic arrived cold and not in order for everybody. The salmon steak was supposed to be with vegetables so I asked for an additional puree and then it came with a puree, so I had purees.
Plus the magic touch at the end, is the 10% tax on top of the bill.
