Went to Mykel's at the recommendation of the owner of the fishing camp where we were staying. We had a large party but they did well to accommodate us and the food was fresh and tasty. Everyone in our party agreed it was a great choice.

We had a great day fishing today on the Kenai River, but what made the day even better was having one of our salmon prepared for us by the chef at Mykel's Restaurant. Prepared perfectly, including risotto and asparagus. Ad a glass of wine and you have a wonderful meal!

We wanted to get some good sea food after a long day of fishing and so, after asking around, decided on Mykeyl’s. Unfortunately, most of the sea food did not live up to reports. I ordered the Halibut Rockefeller with spinach, bacon, shallots, parmesan and bread crumbs stuffing and wild rice pilaf and sautéed vegetables. It sounded better than it was. When preparing sea food, restaurants should focus on the making the fish as tasty as possible before worrying about side dishes. This is something Mykeyl’s should consider long and hard. I found the halibut dry, somewhat tough and drowned-out by a sweet sauce. First, I have no idea how to make halibut tough. This might require special education but Mykeyl’s managed to make it so. Second, halibut doesn’t have a strong flavor so don’t cover it in a strong sauce that drowns out the flavor. Two of my family ordered the grilled salmon with a side of risotto. The risotto was better than the salmon by far. I’m not sure how to mess up fresh salmon but I might suggest a little seasoning next time. “Gently seasoned” was a bit of an understatement. Again, they should have focused their attention on the fish, not on the sides. Our 4th person was not very hungry so ordered steamed clams presented in a creamy butter sauce. This was the one item that I would order again – very good. Lastly, avoid the crab dip fondue unless you like disappointment. All four of us agreed that we did not want to return unless we were feeling like steamed clams only.
