What a fabulous space! Beautifully and tastefully decorated, great attention to detail and well thought out layout and accessories! Our second time staying here and in both instances Jen was a terrific host, easy to communicate with and very accommodating. We hope to make this an annual tradition! The property also offers a magnificent view, and soon will also offer a privat hot tub. The very best Homer has to offer!!
Honestly, the photos don't even do this rental justice. The location is ideal offering amazing mountain view. It's serene yet close to the main town hub, Homer Spit. The owners have taken a stunning setting and enhanced with a property that features impeccable design and character.
I booked Baycrest Lodge's Fireweed Suite for two nights, but was unable to get there until a day late. Jen, the owner, immediately offered to let us stay an extra night at no additional charge. Unfortunately, my wife and I had to be in Anchorage that night due to a 5:00 a.m. flight to Seattle. Even having seen photos of the property, we were both surprised and extremely pleased to see the high quality of this vacation rental. Very comfortable and extremely tastefully-decorated, the suite exceeded all of our expectations. Although close to the Sterling Highway, we were never bothered by road noise, even with the bedroom window open. The property is at the top of a 500-foot bluff over Kachemak Bay, and the scenery is outstanding. From the Augustine Volcano and Mt. Douglas down by Katmai to the west and southwest, all the way south and east to the Kenai Mountains north of the Harding Icefield, the scenery is stupendous!
The bed was quite comfortable, and the bedroom has a ceiling light as well as a ceiling fan with a rheostat. No AC was needed, even though the temperature approached 80F during our stay. The bathroom and vanity area are both functional and attractive. I don't think there is anything in the suite that is less than top-of-the-line. The travertine walls and countertops are definitely a nice touch. A full refrigerator, 4-burner LPG gas stove and oven, a dishwasher, and both a Kuerig coffee maker and a high-quality toaster complete the kitchen. The dining room/living area is furnished with sturdy furniture, a nice sofa and plush chair for relaxing and watching the huge TV screen on the wall, and a woodburning stove for cooler weather. The huge back yard has horseshoe pits, a fire pit, and some of the softest turf I've ever encountered (It felt so good I took off my shoes and socks just to feel it under my toes).
In addition, John and Jen Bouman are the consummate host and hostess. We really appreciated their giving us the Fireweed Suite, as it is on the ground floor (I can't do stairs anymore). Within a week or so, paving of the driveway, parking area, and sidewalks should be completed, making it even better. We both had a good time in Homer after a terrific night's sleep at Bayside Lodge. Thanks, Jen and John!
