The museum presented the history of Costa Rica from the pre-Columbian period and how the influences of North America and South America made the central American country what it is today.

We began out journey in the butterfly garden. It was breathtaking...and then we arrived at this amazing exhibit in the area that used to be a prison in the East Tower. Overall, the museum was very accessible as my partner uses a wheelchair. His admission was also waived because "he uses a wheelchair" that is the standard at most museums there. The city itself isn't very accessible so at least our excursions were accomodating. I don't quite remember but I think my admission was comparable to $10 USD (American Dollars). I got a great picture with a nice backdrop of volcanoes on the room. The terrace area is nice and the different exhibits are housed in a way that reminds me of going from hut to hut in a village. I love the jade exhibit there, much more interesting than all of the jade pieces at the actual Jade Museum.

The entrance through the butterfly house is fantastic. Then an interesting overview of Costa Rica's history. Maybe a couple of hours, then out through the butterfly house again. Wonderful.

We enjoyed the opportunity to learn a bit of Costa Rican history. The price was reasonable and it was the National Museum.

The museum is housed in an attractive old fort and you walk through a butterfly house to get to it. Very nice gardens with precolumbian stonework.
