We booked into this hotel because of the really good reviews it has on booking.com and because of all the facilities the rooms come with. The double room we booked was to be equipped with kitchenette, mosquito net, a nice view from the balcony and a dining area. We booked via the German site of booking.com. On our arrival we found out that almost all facilities mentioned for the room are shared with the other guests (which is no problem in itself; it just has to be clear). In the beginning we thought we had been given the wrong room. When we contacted the reception and explained what we had expexted based on our booking confirmation she asked us to talk to the owner the next day because the owner could also speak German and undrstand what was written in the confirmation. This is what we did. But the owner simply blamed booking for any translation mistakes and refused to take any responsibility for what is written on booking. She told us to learn English or Spanish to avoid such misinformation (later we checkes the Spanish and English descriptions and found the same false information). Since the hotel does not have rooms that met our booking confirmation we cancelled the rest of our stay there. The owner still wanted to charge us a cancellation fee, claiming that booking.com would charge her that fee. On checking with booking.com this turned out to be wrong, so we just paid for the one night we stayed. On leaving I tried to conciliate but the owner just told us that fortunately, guest like us will easily be forgotten. I just thought Wow!
Something like that has never happened to us at any other place in Costa Rica. The rooms are overpriced, dimly lit, with many insects, especially in the shower, our balcony faced the street and it got loud very early in the morning. But above all: the owner was extremely unfriendly, even rude.

We stayed at Luna Llena 8 years ago and liked it so much that we returned. The howlers are still active and noisy. Coffee was ready as early as 5:30 when they, the howlers, seem to be waking up. Room 16 has a hot shower. We enjoyed the other guests in the common area. However, this visit was marred by mosquitoes in the room, to which we are allergic, and a squeaky bed. We were told that mosquitoes are unusual.

I love this place so much. Years later, it hasn’t changed. I’ve recommended this place to many friends who ended up traveling to Costa Rica and stayed here. Everyone has also loved it. It’s always clean, friendly staff, safe and there are the resident pets around to play with. Luciano, the owners son was here working this time and he is a great young man! I will always come back to Montezuma and stay at Luna Llena!

I had a blast at Luna LLena. Booked without a prior reservation and got a bunk bed in a shared room all by myself (love the low season!). The location is the best in town, overlooking the ocean and really inexpensive. The owner and her staff are very friendly and helpful. Free coffee in the wonderful kitchen. I believe there is free yoga but my session was cancelled. Not a big deal. The lounges are excellent too. You may also see and hear lots of wildlife, monkeys, coaties and hummingbirds. Will def. come back.

Room tip: Females dorms are on the top, private rooms/cabins are at lower levels.
