This was our first time in Costa Rica and our first spot we stayed in. We absolutely loved how they reached out to us before we arrived, and how accommodating they are! They have a personal concierge that takes care of you (for us we had Jans) and he really took the time to meet all of our requests and his recommendations never failed!! The horseback riding he set up for us was a lovely local experience and it’s proximity to Manuel Antonio was a plus! The property is also beautiful and has amazing views with delicious meals! Thank you for setting our long deserved vacation off properly!!

My partner and I had the absolute pleasure of returning to Gaia for the first time in 10 years.

Needless to say, Gaia delivered just as much if not more than they did the first time. Absolute first class service - the staff make you feel as though you are a friend and part of their family. Even the owner went out of his way to be approachable and friendly. The vibe at Gaia is so positive - you can tell by how happy the staff is.
Gaia not only invests much of their attention to the guest, but also the pristine and sensitive environment upon which the hotel resides. They are helping to rehabilitate the macaw, and actually helped bring the population back to Manuel Antonio. How cool is that? You can hike on the property and see these birds as well as monkeys, agouti, snakes, frogs, vegetation etc.
The breakfast at La Luna (restaurant on site) is delicious, and the dinner menu is second to none, which contains not only authentic Costa Rican family recipes, but also vegan and vegetarian dishes. We basically lived in La Luna (Hi Ricardo!).
Watching the sunset with a beverage in hand from the infinity pool every eve was priceless. We used to have to rush around to figure out where to watch the sunset. No more, since it can be done from the pool.
The spa was wonderful as ever. A very diverse menu of massage options after those awesome hikes on the reserve or Manuel Antonio national forest.
It definitely won't be another 10 years before I visit Gaia again. It is my home away from home! Thank you so very much Gaia friends! Pura vida!

Room tip: I'd suggest one of the suites by the pool if possible

My girlfriend and I spend 4 days here and had a wonderful time. The reserve on the property is fantastic and allows one the ability to see macaw birds which are otherwise very difficult if not impossible to see in CR. The staff was also fantastic, particularly the concierge assigned to us for our stay, Jans, who made sure we had a great time and that all our needs were met. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

This was by far my wife and I's favorite hotel we've ever stayed at. From the owner on down, every member of the staff is incredible (especially Gustavo, Ricardo, Aldo and Krishna). Any little thing you need they are on top of and everyone is unbelievably friendly. The hotel itself is gorgeous, the food is delicious, and the Macaw reserve is an incredible added bonus.

Gaia is located a few km from Quepos on one side and Manuel Antonio National Park on the other (which are about a 3 hour drive from San Jose (SJO). It is not on the water, but sits up on top of a hill with a view of the Pacific in the distance. When one arrives, you park near the road at the bottom of the hill and take a golf cart up to reception and the buildings with the rooms at the top of the hill (about 2-3 minutes ride). The benefit of this extra steps to get to the rooms and back to one's car is that you are well away from the road (so it is very quiet), and you're high enough to have fantastic views of the sunsets from the hotel's restaurant, La Luna.
The hotel buildings take up a small portion of the approximately 12 acres which serves as a nature preserve. Most of the land owned by the hotel is kept natural. The main building contains reception, the restaurant, and the spa. I believe a handful of rooms were located in the main building. There are 2-3 satellite buildings. The lower rooms will generally have jungle views, while the upper rooms with have a jungle and ocean view.
Our room, #232, had a large bathroom with double sinks and a large shower (but no tub). The bedroom had a king bed, espresso maker, safe, slippers, robe, large TV, and a separate sitting room with a couch and mini-fridge. The room was spacious and clean. There were several areas where the hotel showed it age, but being in a jungle I'd say it was well maintained, There was also a small balcony with a view of the jungle and ocean. The pools was literally a dozen steps from our room, so very convenient.
The way the building are set-up means that you stay is very private and peaceful. There are a few steps and inclines to navigate, but that's the price of staying on the top of a hill.
One of the highlights of our visit was the free tour of the property by Juan, the resident naturalist. During the tour he spotted a young sloth and showed us numerous beautiful macaws that live on the preserve. Juan was also our guide for a private tour of Manuel Antonio Park and its abundant wildlife and diverse plants. It was a great tour, a great park, and a great hotel. I love that the hotel is not only beautiful and unique, but that it shares the nation's commitment to the environment.
As part of the package we had, breakfast was included. While most places offer a buffet, Gaia's included breakfast was off the menu and was fantastic.
The staff truly go out of their way to make one's stay memorable.
