Nothing but good things to say about this place.

Location is great. Just a couple hundred meters from the intersection that divides Mal Pais and Santa Teresa. At the same time it is away from the busy strip of Santa Teresa, which makes it feel a little isolated and more quiet. Walking distance to plenty of restaurants and a few of the beaches.

The staff was more than willing to help with anything that we asked for. There was a mix up with the first day of our stay, and they allowed us to stay in a house right next door to the property. Huge place, clearly meant for more people. The point is they handled the situation well to make sure we were satisfied.

Never ate here (the food around there is fantastic, and we just never felt the need to stick around the hotel to eat.

Bungalows were big. AC was good (much needed for our stay in April), showers were nice. Small fridge was useful as well to always have cool water on hand. Safe in the room was great also, they provide a key for it. Pool is great because it is shaded in the afternoon, which made it a great place to relax and take a break from the sun for a spell.

Only knock on the place would be that the beds were not that comfortable. I like my beds pretty firm, but these were a little too much.

Overall, a great place.

Room Tip: Bungalow we stayed in had king bed, and two twins. Missed this when booking, so keep an eye out to make sure you are not paying more for beds you don't need.

Wish we stayed here for both nights in Mal Pais - everything was great - I can't say enough about the two girls that manage the hotel - the drinks and the bar (day or evening) are excellent - the music - the pool - the atmosphere - the close proximity to the beach and town - the price - the comfortable Lounge chairs - tomorrow we are leaving for La Fortuna - and I may cry.... I will miss it here. Thank you for making it a great place to be.

Stayed during first week in December 2014. You can leave your valuables in your cabin safe and walk to the beach by going along the main road (no sidewalk) for a while and then hang a left along a side road, about 10-15 minutes. On the downside the hotel is on the main road but is visually isolated from the road. And the section of road that they are on is not as busy as area further north. There may be some noise from passing vehicles and motos but the music by the pool and the pool waterfall (when running) helps camouflage the noise.
The hotels is a modern elegant loungy type design with a pretty pool. The cabins are a few meters up the hill from the pool so they are further form the road. Our cabin was really comfortable, plenty of room. nice firm beds, and we felt it was a very good value.
The roads around here are paved in parts and unpaved in others. The unpaved parts contribute to a lot of dust being kicked up and covering the vegetation along the main road. The rain when it comes is welcomed because it knocks down the dust, but also creates mud. You often see ATV and Moto riders wearing bandannas over their noses and mouths to keep the dust out. The road towards Playa Manzanillo is a long seemingly unending stretch of small restaurants, shops, and small hotels, there is no big development here (yet?) but the main road pulses with life.
The beach was swimmable, there was moderate surf when we were there but the beach is very flat so the surf rolled in gently, providing some gentle and fun body surfing.
Overall, a cool, comfortable retreat along a still rough around the edges part of Costa Rica, And that is what makes it unique.
We drove here from Montezuma via the dirt road that cuts across Cabo Blanco, just two shallow stream crossings (it was already into the dry season) and the road was no rougher that anything we saw near Monteverde, but 4 wheel drive is the wise way to go. A more developed road is available via Cobano.

Room Tip: All the cabins look like good choices. We had the Mexico unit. There are also individual rooms closer to the pool and breakfast area, we didn't check them out, but these would be less private.

We stayed here for 4 nights, and had a fantastic time.Graciela was a brilliant host, nothing was too much trouble. Room was amazing, big, light and airy, and felt very private. That said, the blinds weren't sufficient to stop people seeing in at night when the lights are on. Though because they were spaced out and Set amongst the vegetation, it did still feel private. Pool area was relaxed and had a great vibe. Only 5 mins walk to beach and town started 2 mins walk away. Go to jobbies to hire a board off the friendliest Canadian you'll ever meet (and that's saying something!). Breakfasts were great. Could do with more beds in sun around the pool. Also, the bathroom is part of the room, so toilet is not at all private.

The Place is the place to be! My boyfriend and I spend a night here and were thoroughly impressed with all aspects of this hotel from cleanliness and service to location and food. We stayed in one of the standard rooms which was perfect. The hotel was quiet which is exactly what we were looking for with really comfy bed, great shower and water pressure, and coffee maker. There's a really nice good sized pool and the grounds are beautiful, clean and well kept. We had dinner at the restaurant and split a giant dish of delicious fajitas, more than enough food for two people. Breakfast was included with our deal and was Ah-mazing! You get a choice of meal from the menu which comes with fresh fruit or juice and coffee, a great deal for being an included breakfast and very tasty. All the staff were helpful, polite and very friendly offering us a place to store our bags while we stayed a little longer to have a drink at the bar after checking out. Overall, I highly recommend and yes, we will be back!
