Casa Cameleon is a tad hard to get to (if you consider the propellor plane to Tambor + the 40-minute car ride) but don't let that deter you. This place is absolutely AMAZING. They open up the wooden doors and you are immediately in paradise. All the rooms are a little different, but the plunge pool and indoor/outdoor shower are the best parts. We ended up doing two early-morning excursions and would return to Casa Chameleon every day around 2PM. It was perfect to be able to just hang out in our own little private paradise all afternoon. The pools get a decent amount of sun, but there are also shaded parts of the patio. The breakfast here is fabulous too. Try everything on the menu if you have enough time!

** Highly recommend renting ATV's as it's the easiest way to get around. We walked into town on our first day there and rented from Savannah X-treme Tours - competitive prices and very friendly!

Hola Sierra P,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, it is highly appreciated!
We are thrilled you found Casa Chameleon Mal Pais amazing, and you enjoyed the included breakfast. And getting around on an ATV, like the locals, is what we most recommend. From our front desk you are able to rent one and it will be brought directly to the hotel, no need to walk to town!

It was the most amazing, relaxing and romantic experience I have ever had. I cannot stop thinking about the resort, the staff and most of all, the amazing room!
Jose, Klarissa, Esteban, Kaylor and the rest of the staff completely outdid themselves. The in-room massages were incredible as well!
Could not have been more pleased and blessed to have spent my 40th birthday in paradise!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

My wife and I absolutely loved our time at Casa Chameleon - Mal Pais! The staff are so welcoming and make sure that your stay is everything that you want it to be. The surrounding area is beautiful, rent an ATV and be your own tour guide! Thank you so much to Esteban, Emilio, Kaylor, and all the others that made our stay so enjoyable. Y’all rock!

This was a fantastic resort with possibly the best food that we have experienced on a vacation to date. They not only created a fresh and new menu each day, but also would go out of their way to accommodate any requests that were not on the menu. However, the menu options blew us away nightly.

We stayed in one of the two Ocean View villas... in the older of the 2. The villa was exceptional. The private pool was perfect and allowed us the privacy that we seek in our getaways.

My ONLY reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that there were over 130 stairs between our villa and everywhere else (especially the restaurant). Even though we did not mind getting some mandatory cardio... in a warm environment and during a rainy period, which in the tropicals is highly likely... having the walk as an option versus something you have to contend with just to eat is a little daunting. I would still return, but after visiting the sister property in Las Catalinas, that option is our preference.

Room tip: Villas are beautiful if you're up to the many steep stairs required to get around.

Having been to Costa Rica before i was looking for a quiet and secluded luxury experience with great food. We could not have found a better place. The staff is friendly, helpful and in four days feel like family. From the moment we arrived we were treated extremely well and no matter the need everything was made easy for us.

The location is fabulous with amazing views and great access to the town of Santa Teresa which was a great experience. We rented an ATV during our stay which was a great way to get into town or just around the area. The room was clean, and beautiful and the AC worked very well when we used it.

We tried the Montezuma falls excursion which was fun and we loved the town of Montezuma. The Tortuga Island tour was amazing. We had a wonderful time. We also did in room massage which was relaxing.

I would highly recommend Cafe Caracolus. The food, people and the unique setup on the secluded beach was 5 star.

We will be traveling soon to the other casa chameleon hotel, and while i have heard wonderful things, i love the local feel of the jungle here in Mal Pais.

The one and only thing that i did not love was the actual bed. It was a little too firm for me, but i am extremely picky in that area and so I’m sure others probably wouldn’t have an issue with it.

Lastly i had originally booked the larger villa, but unfortunately it was double booked on the same day due to a website glitch. I was notified immediately after booking about it and was assured that our room Caoba was wonderful. And honestly I don’t think the extra room would have made a difference as our room was already very large and PLENTy of space, and i say that as someone who loves space. Lol

It is great to hear you enjoyed your Villa, and that Casa Chameleon Hotel in Mal Pais met your expectations!
You have given other travelers great advice, getting around an ATV is so much easier and fun in the area, allowing you to explore the different coves and beaches in the surrounding area.
