We like staying here and visit each year. We like the openness of the cabins, the view from the balcony, and the people of the hotel. Some cabinas are higher than others, so if you have trouble with steps you may not want one of the high ones. Personally I like the exercise aspect and after a day or two I don't have an issue. The breakfast, which is included, is delicious, filling, and nutritious. The beach is across the street; this section of ocean is rocky. However, at low tide there are pools to go in that are enjoyable. Water shoes are recommended when you swim. The hotel does have a pool that is clean and refreshing to swim in.

We've been to the Blue Jay twice now and am already planning next years trip. It provides the right amount of solitude to get away from it all and truly wind down. Price is right and with Breakfast included you can't go wrong. The bungalows let you sleep outdoors without actually being outdoors.

We stayed a couple of nights during Holy Week, in one of the bungalows located on the top of the hill. The view of the ocean and beaches was wonderful, and the sunsets, really spectacular! The beach is near from the Hotel, walking 2 or 3 minutes, which is very beautiful. At night, we enjoyed to be in the balcony listening relaxing music and the waves. And early in the morning, hearing the congo (howler) monkeys just behind the bungalow. The pool is OK and the service of breakfast (included) was very good. I suggest a water dispenser in the lobby for clients and that the WIFI can reach the bungalows in the hill. Good rate for a beautiful place. I will return back to this Hotel in the next trip to Malpais.

My husband and I stayed here, we loved the atmosphere the place is clean, and we had a truly amazing view of the beach! Not sure if all the cabins have the same view though... the staff was friendly and the breakfast was nice. Gallo pinto and eggs.

We were in the top cabin which was quite a hike but worth it when we got there. Our cabin was very functionable and the views were amazing. We would have liked it to have been equipped with a kettle for making tea and a small fridge as once you're settled for the night there is no way of making a hot drink.
We hired pushbikes for 3 days $60 from a local shop only to be told by David at Blue Jay that we could have hired them there for $4 per day. I would recommend hiring pushbikes, they're a bit rickety and not the easiest to peddle but riding them on the beach was a pleasure until you come to a soft section!

Room tip: the cabins at the top are not for the unfit or lazy!
