our family room was clean and reasonably spacious,as was the double with river views (although this room was a bit less private),staff were helpful with tour organising, and the breakfast was good quality, with reasonable amount for set meal.the only criticism we had was that no breakfast was available for those taking the early ferry out..(may i suggest selfserve fruit, and a bit of bread and jam could be put out with the tea and coffee which was available, this would have helped with our young children).the tours into the park with roberto were great, and i was pleased that the 2hr turtle tour was extended to allow more searching time.one big plus with this place is the canoe available for guest use,(if you can get a go!).if touring independantly,i would recommend staying here/using water taxi from la pavona, rather than a package at a lodge.

We stayed here for about 2 nights. We booked our tours through this hotel and really enjoyed the guided tours. I can recommend them. The rooms were clean and the personnel was very friendly and gave us valuable information. The location in Tortuguero village was good, as you were close to everything. The terrace just at the water improved the location even more.

However, similarily as in many hotels in Costa Rica the walls were thin and you could hear the people work and children play from early in the morning, making it hard to sleep long (I gues this accounts for most of the places in the village). The breakfast was good, but very simple, often toast with eggs and some fruits - this probably is not to everybodys liking.

Casa Marbella is much more than a B&B due to its location (its private dock provides an amazing platform to observe the canal and its widlife) and the friendliness of his host. Daryl is indeed an extremely knowledgeable and approachable person who will do everything to assist you, not only during, but also before and after your stay. This place is a true gem in the middle of an amazing location

The location of Casa Marbella is great; it's a couple of minutes walk from the centre of Tortuguero, and has its own pier at which the boats will drop you. And Darryl is something of a local legend - lots of literature mentions him by name, and his tours have become well-known. He's obviously a busy guy, but if you can grab him, he's happy to help with information, excursions and transfers.
Our room was on the ground floor, street-side - and it's not one we can recommend. Despite the two fans provided, it was stifling, with no air movement in the room; in addition, the noise from the street kept us awake late (after 2am) and woke us up early (before 6am) with late night revellers, children, dogs etc. We saw an upstairs room that overlooked the lagoon/ river, and it looked much better - much airier and with a better view.
So while you can't argue with the value ($45 for a 3-person room), you'll want to check carefully which room you're getting before committing!

Wonderful stay, nice and clean rooms , well located and owner and his assistants very kind and polite. Not luxury but very clean, comfortable, well located...more than we expected only for 40$ for the room located close to the street. We sleep very well.
Daryl, the owner, has a boat with electric engine that allows you to visit Tortuguero park and to see a lot of animals without noise. The only one over in tour with electric engine.
Thanks Daryl for this good stay. We will recommend it to our friend. Really nice place with good view to the river.
